When will Gordon be in shape?

Gordon will be 28 in April. He's not a newly-minted college speedster (not that he was ever a "speedster"), and he has spent a lot of time away from the practice field. I don't know that explosive acceleration or change of direction have ever been a major part of his success.

I'd guess that he's still getting back into "game shape", and that the process may not yield visual results until the playoffs. Meanwhile, he may also be refining his craft, in terms of technique and reading the defense, to levels that he may not have previously experienced.

He may never again achieve the production that he had in 2013, but he may also be turning into a much better receiver overall.

It seems to me that patience on our part as fans is required.

Agreed and that patience is justifiable based on the small investment made to bring him here. It's not as though the Pats gave up the farm to bring him in.

Josh Gordon is #6th in the NFL @ 18.3 YPR.

I like what Gordon is presenting right now. He is not on the same page with Brady without a doubt but to me it is a matter of getting to know a playbook better. He is consistent with very good hands. Most of Brady's passes were caught by Gordon if they were addressed well. Some of the drops were a consequence of miscommunication between him and TB12. His bigger issue now is his lack of speed what was his advantage a few years ago. However if he stays with us I believe everything will be fine.It is just a matter of time.

In the Herald was a take by Billick on Gordon and Brady. "Brady forcing Josh Gordon the ball so much. Game repetition is the only way for Brady and Gordon to really connect. The hope is for a greater benefit down the road in the playoffs". Sounds logical. I have the same thought regarding not kicking OTB on kickoffs.

I sensed that too. Brady's at his best with 3 WR, Gronk and White totally in synch [not at the same time] he probably won't have that, Gordon gives him a big play maker with Edelman and Gronk and Hogan, especially [and Dorsett] seem to do well when they have less coverage. It's not the Patriots offense, but it might be good enough.

He's in an adjustment period, his conditioning regimen was thrown off when he had to give up 12 ounce curls. I can empathize, my body just wasn't right when I gave them up and I struggled mightily. Looking back now on the time I gave up drinking I can honestly say those were among the toughest hours of my life.
But Gordon is a professional athlete and you’re not

For me, giving up drinking was far easier than continuing to drink

I'm more than happy how gordon has produced with minimal preparation.
Agreed, although his limitations in terms of route running and overall conditioning seem to be on display a bit, recently. Hopefully, he can continue to build something with Brady and McDaniels. He’s certainly worth keeping through 2019 assuming a clean bill of health.

He may never regain his top speed or explosiveness. Only time will tell us that tale.

If @Gymrat was still here, he'd prescribe 4 sets of squats, 4 sets of leg press, 4 sets deadlifts, and leg extension burnouts. Gordon would regain that speed in no time.

I think what we're seeing is less a lack of physical speed, and more the occasional hesitation because he doesn't have the playbook 100% down pat.
