TNF Green Poops vs. Brown Poops Game Thread

I can't believe I'm saying this, but if Mayfield is the real deal, this could be a playoff contender this season. They're very talented on the defensive side of the ball and improved QB play would go a long way in a division in which the Ravens window closed a couple of seasons ago, the Steelers are falling apart at the seams, and the Bengals continually find ways to choke away the division lead under Marvin. That said, I still think they're a season away. They have needs at WR, EDGE, CB, and safety.
Honestly I've been here w the Browns for months. Thought the could compete for a WC/Div. It's a division that is trending down or stagnant.

If I'm them I'm focusing on OL/DL/CB in this year's draft.

Perfect summary.

I still believe in Darnold's ability -- had him neck and neck with Mayfield all year -- but I hated to see him go to the Jets. They'll ruin him. Good for the Patriots, but bad for Darnold. He should have gone to the Giants to sit behind Eli for a couple years. I think he has a lot of skill, but needs to learn to avoid turnovers and adjust to the NFL game. Ah well. At least he's better than Hack.

Mayfield Browns will be dangerous for years to come. By the way, did anyone see Avery out there? He looked like one of the Browns top 3 defenders, right along with Garrett and Ward. Wish we could have taken him in the draft (that's not just hindsight; I had him in my final mock).
They have a nice lb corp. I had a 2nd on Avery.

Giants will be regretting this pick forever. SQB is legit but that line is awful & Eli is done.

Said a few weeks ago but Gettleman has drafted 2 RB'S in the first round recently & reset the market on Solders contract. NYG fans can't be happy. I think their in the lottery again this year & might implode after losing to Houston this week.

Baker... Mr cool. Kinda like Cleveland now. Talk about embracing the challenge. Compared to how Stafford handled that defense. Yikes.

Last night was example of how huge QB position is. Browns became completely different team, moved the ball, made plays , crowd got into it. And he made Jets and darnold look like rookie operation..

Mayfield and Darnold looked really good for rookies. A Browns/Jets playoff game in 2020/2021? Don't discount it, as we know the importance of the qb position.

The giants look like they will have more chances to use a top 5 pick on a qb.

What? Darnold should have had three picks in that game and consistently stared down his receiver. The first INT came with him panicking, his eyes dropping, and then throwing into double coverage. That looked good to you?

I’m curious what you thought was good about darnold last night.
He completed less than half his passes. Most of his yardage came on horizontal throws on wr screens and when he had the ball with 2 minutes left and a td wins he throws a pick.
This against a team that won 1 of its last 34 games.

Mayfield looked awesome but that team is still a hot mess. Don't forget the Jets suck almost as bad as the Browns.

I'm still sticking to 3-10-3 record for the Browns record this year. That's 6 less losses than last year huge improvement for them but they still to dysfunctional for more than a few wins.

Browns first win couldn't have come against a better team.

Well except maybe the Steelers. But they did manage to tie them.

Win Win!

Dilly Dilly!

My thoughts on the game:
- Cleveland's defense is underrated. They have a great front 7 thanks to Garret, who is already a forced to be recognized... He is FAST off the line

- Do you remember seeing Collins on the field? Yeah, the guy had 3 tackles all game... Shipping him to the Browns was absolutely the correct move

- Landry is a top 5 WR in the NFL.

- Darnold had a rough night, but i thought he looked better than his stats, IIBH. Still he needs to bounce back. The thing about being a NFL qb is always improving... DCs are dissecting your every snap so if you arent always a step ahead, you will be a step behind.

- Mayfield looked GREAT. He passed confidently in the middle of the field, hitting very small windows. He needs to throw lower though, if he doesnt want to have a different receiver corps every week. Still, for a first showing... impecable.

- Jets is better overall than last year, but are still a year or two from being a playoff team. Their trenches are weak and so is their LBs...

Was just going to post this. I watched most of the game last night, and he was a complete non-factor. Kept running past the cutback holes for the Jets backs. Always showed up just after the tackle had been made by someone else. Those WR screens that kept working for the Jete? Collins overran at least one of those too.

- Landry is a top 5 WR in the NFL.
He looked great last night. Was the only WR doing anything while TT was in there, and then stepped it up even more when Mayfield came in.

Just finished watching 17 minutes of Boomer ( what grown-up is still called Boomer?) and Gio on WFAN absolutely ball-washing Darnold. I think Darnold will be pretty good down the line, but these guys, especially Boom-Boy, are ridiculous about Darnold.

You got an issue with the name Boomer?

Mayfield looked great - but then so did Darnold in his first game a couple of weeks ago, so let's not go overboard on either of them yet. The early signs are good, though.

Cleveland could easily be 3-0 this season (if their kickers hadn't had their cleats on the wrong feet) - they could be good for 4-7 wins this year? Not a playoff team yet, but they'll leapfrog a few teams this season...

Hue Jackson is an idiot, how is he not seeing Mayfield throwing those darts in practice everyday and keeps TT just because he's said "He's our QB" even before the draft, how a coach take a stand like this before training camp?

He should be fired today because his decisions doesn't give the team the better chance to win, he wants to be what 0-48?

Mayfield in his first pass showed he was ready, presence in the pocket, good spin on the ball, throwing lasers all over the field, he didn't start doing that yesterday. They draft a guy #1 overall who was a stud in College, what is this process in NFL of "saving" the QB for next season. Players improve with playing time in real games. Sometimes it makes sense to not ruin a guy when the roster around him is pure garbage like in Buffalo, but Cleveland has a good team. Why waste a chance to at least have a 6-10, 7-9 season (if not better) and develop a winning culture by standing with Tyrod Taylor who checked out mentally from the game he makes his first read and starts to run like it's the only option they have.

He had all the physical tools to be an all-pro type player but just never seemed to care enough about football to push himself to that level. Consistently underwhelming with flashes of what he could be.

Darnold looked good? We must have watched different games
He has to say good things about the jets. It’s the passive aggressive version of his hatred of the patriots.

**** Cleveland they can go 0-16 for the rest of my time on Earth as far as I'm concerned.
