Britt released

Can't just magically make a move just because you think we need it. Hopefully something comes up that Bill feels is worth it. But I definitely think Bill is ready to go with what we have and not close to as concerned as you or others panicking over it are.
He should be. The position is a definite weakness. That’s a skill position group that we’ll see a lot of Cover-1 under and 8 man boxes for. I guess some people want to go back to the awesome times when defenses played this offense as if they were in the red zone all the time. I doubt Bill will, though. After all, that’s why he brought in guys like Hogan and Cooks in the first place. As a direct response to to that after years where people like you didn’t think there was a need for a wideout who can threaten outside the numbers consistently.

How do we go from offering a extenstion to releasing him?

If they add another WR, unless it is someone who has worked with Brady recently (LaFell being the only candidate?), it will take them at least 6 weeks to get up to speed, and by then the offense will be (hopefully) humming along with JE, Gronk, White, Hogan, and Hollister getting 90% of the receptions.

Only way a new guy helps is if there is an injury, or if he is so good he supplants one of those five in targets.

Bryant certainly wouldn't be able to do that, unless he gets a football smarts upgrade ala a plug in from The Matrix. Who else?

It won’t be Dez. He’s an mental midget and would be a square peg in a round hole in this offense. He’s also lost a few steps. They’d either have to trade with a team that runs a similar offense or go into the year with what they have and address it next season. Luckily, the Pats have Brady. The guy that’s covered for multiple personnel failures over multiple seasons before. He’s also certainly worked with worse.

But this is a position group that won’t scare anyone. Dorsett hears footsteps and has been a complete bust, to date. Patterson is a competent WR4 at the most and is mostly a guy that they’re going to look for on screens and short hitches to get the ball in his hands in space. Hogan is an ideal WR3 that will be forced into the WR1 role early on. Decker is a re-tread that has trouble getting separation. His best days are clearly behind him. McCarron has been nothing more than practice squad fodder and Berrios is a rookie. On top of that, Edelman is suspended for four games, on the other side of 30, and is working his way back from an ACL. Furthermore, both he and Gronk have battled injuries throughout their entire careers. So yeah, color me concerned about that position group as we go into the season. I’d love to be proven wrong but I highly doubt I will be.

Hashtag not worried.

The only thing I am worried about is if they carry a bad WR to cut a promising player at another position.

I'm fine with them going Hogan, Dorsett, Patterson, Slater and putting a few WRs on the PS. But if they carry Lucien or Decker to cut someone who matters I'll be pissed.

I don't understand why I am reading Hollister's name being called like the second coming from Hernandez.

I think Lucien will get more targets than him if he makes the roster. If there's no viable trade and the coaching staff believe in them, I think they roll the dice with Lucien and one of the kids.

Britt not making the roster was an easy call. He sucked. The real problem is the Pats decided to mismanage this position like they did in 2006 and 2013, but this is way worse.

I had no problem with Cooks being traded, but we assumed they'd have a plan to replace him. They did not. If it stays the same, they'll be lucky to be 10-6. This roster definitely isn't good enough to get back to the Super Bowl. As usual, Brady will put the team on his back and carry them as far as he can. It's a shame another year could be wasted.

Either they trade for someone or time to call Dez. You have no other options.

Then prepare to be pissed. We will go into Game 1 with more than 3 WR's on the squad plus Slater.

Dez Dez baby

Dez Dez baby
You and I have been the only posters pushing it. I still think it's going to happen. Dez said on his Instagram that Brady is his favorite QB. Him saying that is not a coincidence. He's telling the Pats to call him.

Plus reporters saying Patriots are not interested in Dez is Patriots bringing his price down.

There is a difference between pessimism and concern or even better skepticism. Everyone here is pretty much anywhere between curious/concerned to skeptical. Pessimism is just seeing the absolute worst in something. Quite frankly its tiresome.

You know me. I usually see the sunny side of things but in terms of proven WR s here it's light thus year.

How about skeptical?

Dez can't get separation.

Maybe Stevie Johnson wants to play football again. He was the one wide receiver I always expected to end up with the Patriots and never did.

Dez will be here SF or Was nothing else makes sense.
I think he can be effective here. The Pats could use another guy for those 50/50 balls and back shoulder throws. Dez can still do that. In addition, Edelman and Hogan will take pressure off of him and he'd be playing with the best QB of all time. People on here say he can't comprehend this offense but his main complaint in Dallas was their predictability. Unless he really is an idiot, he will not disrespect the coaching staff like he did in Dallas who haven't accomplished anything. That's the main reason why it happened. And if it doesn't work out here so what? The Pats don't have a choice.

SF would be a nice destination as well.

Decker doesn't look like he can either.

Because he’s injury-prone and can’t get on the field.
Is it possible he was making some improvement, Pats low balled him on a deal, so then he started dragging ass, so they cut him? I know that’s the cynical way of looking at it, but I wouldn’t really be surprised. Then again, it’s more than likely just what you said. Can’t make club from the tub and all that.

The infamous 2013 offense with Edelman, Amendola playing on a torn groin, Thompkins & Dobson:

With Gronk (7 games): 32 PPG

The offense can be elite. The WR group can blow. In the end, will it matter? We'll see. Stay healthy Gronk.
