2018 Training Camp- Day 3 (7/28/18)

CP has been a solid 3rd WR his whole career for the most part. I expect (assuming he gets it) that the trend will continue or be better with the Brady factor. If he gets snaps but there is a ton of depth there.

#3 WRs who are taking regular snaps are usually in the 400-500 range. Thats it.

If your third wide out is putting up more numbers than that then you either have a 2007 Pats situation that set records and had minimal TE contribution or your team is probably too one-dimensional.

I know the steelers have had it - got a lot of production from Bryant and Juju behind Brown but their TEs dont do much.

The key is getting more balance with RB and TE chipping in so your team is multidimensional. That is much harder to stop. Our 3rd WR could have 200 yards but it could be a great season because the yards were spread around.
Taking about more balanced offence I meant production including our RBs and TEs. But yes, after rethinking 500 yards for a backup WR would be like a dream.

You are right but it depends. I assume Hogan is our outside WR and Edelman plays slot. The question is who is gonna be a second outside WR? In that scenario I am curious what will happen with Matthews who is a nominal slot WR. What role is predicted for Patterson - just a KR or maybe another useful WR? And Dorsett - of course he can stretch the field,he has got speed but he can also play slot. It is all like reading the tea leaves. My bottom line is in this season our offence might be balanced more than ever with no particular WR leader.

Edelman is more than a slot. I expect him to be outside and Matthews in the slot when 11, 15, and 80 line up all at once.

I know it is early, but non of the rookies has stood out so far. In the past we’ve seen the likes of Mankin, Thuney, Hightower... with the first unit all throughout camp.

I guess I wanted to see: one of rookie LB ‘s replace Roberts; Michel be in the same group as Burkhead and White as passing down back;

Far more often than not, there's been a TE and RB in the top-5 in targets from Brady, which usually pushes the #3WR down to #5 in targets and yards.

Matthews has lined up outside at times. Dorsett has lined up outside and in the slot.

Ideally, you'd want to have all your WRs, a couple TEs and at least one RB with the capability of lining up almost anywhere at any time and be able to run a wide variety of routes from there successfully. Hard to attain, but I think BB tries to have personnel who can come close to that.

I think Michel got first team snaps. Wynn, is a rookie who's going to get work at LT and LG. With the addition of Brown, there's a need for that LT1 hopeful to get a lot of snaps to show whether or not he can do the job. If Brown flames out, Wynn will get his chance.

As for the rest, which of them were you thinking would show early in OTAs or camp? Except for Dawson, they're all 5th rounders or later, and the LBs aren't cover LBs who'd be expected to shine in the underwear events.

I’m fine with Michel primarily being the first/second down RB (eventually, likely as the season progresses). Hopefully, we can hit him with 20 passes or so and help to keep the defense honest.

I’m not going to hold my breath that Roberts is cut. He may not be extremely talented and we know he’s not versatile, but he still knows the system, provides something as a run down thumper, and isn’t exactly battling with the likes of anyone more proven.

Potentially big training camp news, although it's not out of Patriots camp:

Steelers starting left guard Ramon Foster was carted off from practice after his right leg got caught underneath defensive end Stephon Tuitt, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Foster will undergo further medical testing, but the injury appeared serious, according to Fittipaldo. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who had a scheduled day off, was concerned enough to take the ride on the cart with Foster.

Ramon Foster carted off with leg injury

Two injury notes: The knee injury suffered by #Panthers OT Daryl Williams is not believed to be season-ending. ... And the knee injury that saw #Steelers G Ramon Foster carted off is not thought to be serious. Both much better than they looked.

Relatively good news for both players. Thanks for posting.

ITS. DAY. 3.

These threads are great. Its nice to copy/paste clips but my goodness take this w a grain of salt.

Wynn, Sony & Dawson etc are all looking to take spots from proven vets & again its day 3.

Do people really think anyone has a great handle on the team after 72 hours?

Ben Volin needs his mouth smashed in. I think any 12 year old Patriot fan girl could do the trick. Why this pompous Pats hater with that supremely hatable face is covering this team is a mystery that won't ever be solved. Ben, if one of you compadres who scan these threads would relay the message...please eat shyt and DIE you rotten little punk. Thank you...signed....the rest of the human gene pool...
