Every team uses a slot WR, how much spends on the offensive strategy, but just as importantly the talent they have at slot. Again, I'm not making predictions but if he flashes in the pre, I don't see him clearing waivers. He was a very sought after rook FA.
Agreed.

It's extremely early so hopefully some of these guys produce and make things tougher but right now the line seems to be pretty clear and someone needs to do something to change it or who really cares that much who the last guy or two is.

Right now top 4 Diggs, Pop, Boutte, Williams.

Bourne seems to still be right there as the 5th best.

And I haven't seen anything yet to put anyone else above him. It's kind of a pretty a clear and obvious line of demarcation and there's plenty of time for anyone to make their claim.

I'd also say it's probably more important how those top 4 develop anyway.

All that said this should be a fun follow for the next few weeks and the competition should settle itself.

I’m a bit frustrated by the lack of TE coverage to be honest. I want to know how guys like Dippre look. I guess few eyes are probably on them. At least Lampe is getting some buzz.
We’ll see the middle/late round and UDFA rookies separate themselves as camp moves along and in preseason… good or bad.

There’s a smidge of favoritism happening with the rookies getting a lot of run early, rightfully so… they’re talented and the team has clear needs there. But time and talent will make the cream rise to the top.

In the 2 practices I've seen it's clear Henry and Maye like each other and I'm not worried about that we have a something good there. but I haven't seen much from anyone else Hooper included. Don't want to over play anything it's early and I've only seen so many reps and a lot to try and watch.

Hooper is on PUP..

I don't think that determination can be made at this point. We don't know enough about Effin Chism right now.
Agreed. He seems like the type of player that could shine in preseason. Get open quick underneath guy that the QBs will be looking for. He turns some of those short passes into chunk plays, then NFL pro scouts of other teams will take notice. This is projection on my part of course, maybe he does nothing in preseason. I will not talk in certainties like Ring 6, way too early for that.

I mean you can hope but he played at a low level of competition doesn’t have nfl speed and wasn’t draft able so….

“Certainty” is based upon information available at the time.

I didn’t say teams don’t use a slot WR, I said many teams don’t feature them “to the degree” that Josh McDaniels likes to.

understood, but not sure why you think that. 11 personnel is the base offense for most teams in the league. Of the top 30 wide receivers in receiving yardage in 2024, 22 ran at least 25 percent of their snaps out of the slot. Cooper Kupp, St Brown...etc Lamb ran 50% of his routes from the slot last year. Wether or not Chism can be an effective slot guy is TBD, but if so, he would have many suitors if we tried to sneak him through waivers.

I think you’re making my point for me… “guy who runs 25 percent of his routes from the slot” is a world away from “guy who is strictly 100 percent a slot receiver”

The point is team runs a guy from the slot on most offensive plays. If you have a great slot guy you keep him there. If you don’t you put guys in motion and maybe an outside guy runs a route from the slot. So most teams use a slot on most plays, whether the guy is designated as a slot makes no difference. You think few teams would be interested even if he shows out in preseason, I think the opposite. They are both opinions.

If Boutte is one of the top 4, he has a target on his back. Diggs, Pop and Williams should be the top 3.

Boutte is fighting everyone else for the remainder of spots.
No Boutte is not! He's well ahead of everyone else keep up.
