Edelman Suspension Appeal

Or maybe, just maybe....Jules is an Alien with super human skills as a WR.....

The fact that everyone already knows that he tested positive for an "unknown" substance AND that his appeal is today, is a violation of the CBA.

This is supposed to be a confidential process until it is completed. The league office has more leaks in it than Congress.

My gut tells me that Edelman gets screwed here.

I know the appeal is today but does anyone know when the ruling is? Like, does he give the ruling right there with everyone in the same room like Judge Wapner? Or do we have to wait a couple weeks?

It's a heavy fine leaking this info but since it's a Pat no one will be held accountable.

Comments:

a.) I say Jules should fight this as hard as he can. He is only facing a 4 game suspension.

b.) If Jules is going to appeal, then we need to consider potential games missed during other parts of the season (e.g. get an injunction, play weeks 1-4, lose appeal mid-season, and miss 4 games mid-season). So, at some point...it becomes a football issue.

c.) The above being said...I'd fight it...and file an appeal without an injunction to play in weeks 1-4. Then let it play out while sitting out weeks 1-4.... I'd like to see more from our WR's with Jules out anyway...and we don't need him in weeks 1-4. I want him in weeks 15-???.

I don’t believe the ruling is usually given on site, but with Goodell vs the Pats, all rules go out the window. He may have upheld the suspension before Jules even walked in the door.

Based on history, I suspect the decision was made well before any investigation. Not sure when we get actual ruling.

2. Does this "unknown substance" simply mean there was a spike in the chart that can't be attributed to any particular chemical they tested for, but that something was resident in Edelman's blood that isn't normal for humans to have?

Most likely, yes. A chromatogram such as below would have been generated. The people evaluating the data would try to identify what each peak corresponds to. Probably, a significant peak did not match any known substance.

3. And if so, could the unknown substance be something that's not illegal?

Yes, it could be. They also might suspect that it is a close family member of a known drug that is illegal, based upon where it appears in the spectrum above and based upon its molecular weight (the material is shunted to a mass spectrometer as each peak comes off the column.

4. And if so, wouldn't this circumstance already have been experienced and adjudicated by the NFL process, given that thousands of these tests have been done by now?

Yes, One would think that it would be extremely odd that Jules would have a substance in his blood or urine that had never shown up for any other player.
What?

It says his kodachrome was refracted by a themistular googoxboxlox and this lead to the heartbreak of guiltinosis.
