Danny Etling Signs 4 Year Contract. (Merge)

I know next to nothing about assessing NFL QB prospects but he seems to have a similar "quick flick" throwing motion similar to Jimmy G's. After a handful of NFL starts (including a couple for the Patriots after spending time in their system), Jimmy G gets a contract a 5 year/ $137.5M contract.

I assume Etling's new contract to be Brady's backup is a bit less.

The question that is on everyone's mind is does Danny Etling possess Cat like quickness?
Specifically does he possess the state of mind required to make this team?
Word is he can scratch a post with one hand while throwing a football with the other.

I don't know guys some of you seem to be higher on him then me. I don't think he'll make the team.

I think at the very least 1 yr with the team.

Unfortunately, he will be taking a roster spot which bumps another position player that may be more valuable for 2018 season...

I don't have an opinion on the kid. If he plays well enough and Bill and Josh think they might have something to work with, they need to keep him on the roster

And the experts say...No way BB can ever get a HoF QB in the 6th round again.
BB says...Hold my beer.
Am I getting ahead of myself?
BB says...Hold my orange juice.

Gee ... somewhat similar to the outrage when Jimmy G was drafted ...

No you weren't...you saw the name Danny and had a flashback...you can't fool ME, Brady6

Maybe he'll be the next Matt Cassell. That would be of some value as a backup. :)

One less roster spot for a real player.

He’s almost certain to be cut and signed to the PS. No one wanted him through almost 7 rounds. I don’t know why that would suddenly change? Is there a big market for Danny Etling that no one knows about?

From ESPN 5/7/2018

Two-year window to assess newest QB addition. When the Patriots selected LSU quarterback Danny Etling with the top pick of the seventh round (No. 219 overall) this year, there was an obvious comparison to be made. Could his situation be similar to how the team identified under-the-radar Matt Cassel as a seventh-round pick in 2005, before developing him into a capable backup who won 10 games when elevated to a starting role in 2008? The Patriots should have a better feel if Etling potentially could be that type of player by the end of 2019 training camp (as a comparison, that is similar to the time frame the team elected to move on from Jacoby Brissett). So Etling, who will sign a four-year contract through 2021, is a notable part of the discussion. The Patriots viewed him as favorably, if not more, as any of the quarterbacks who were selected on the third day of the draft (Kyle Lauletta, Mike White, Luke Falk, Tanner Lee, Alex McGough and Logan Woodside).

IMO - surprising last statement.

If true - a big If - then Bill & his toadies are even worse at this talent evaluation thingy than I thought they already were.

Ask Tom House.

Put him on the avocado ice cream and guerrero and we have a backup for now.

Is pleasuring Guerrero now part of the backup QB duties? Maybe that's why we lost two good ones last year!
