I love this pick. Seriously. It's like Bill is giving the middle finger to the rest of the league. LSU's passing offense has been a dumpster fire for years. It got Les Miles fired and it's going to get Ed Orgeron fired sometime this year. The idea of taking an LSU quarterback and turning him into an NFL player is so counter intuitive that it's brilliant.

If Bill and Josh can pull this off it will make people's heads explode. And if he can't (as many others have pointed out) then meh he's only a 7th round pick.

Typical garbage pick from the "Genius" (snicker).

Little Billy Napoleon gets worse at this every year. No wonder then that he has his kids on the staff, to take over the family birthright if the Emperor goes full Charles III.

This is the bridge

This is the water under the bridge
But it's not the same bridge!

Ah, warm flashbacks to your outrage over the inexcusable pick of worthless "Jimmy Small Hands Garoppolo." :) Year in, year out, you deliver, Captain!

Two-year window to assess newest QB addition. When the Patriots selected LSU quarterback Danny Etling with the top pick of the seventh round (No. 219 overall) this year, there was an obvious comparison to be made. Could his situation be similar to how the team identified under-the-radar Matt Cassel as a seventh-round pick in 2005, before developing him into a capable backup who won 10 games when elevated to a starting role in 2008? The Patriots should have a better feel if Etling potentially could be that type of player by the end of 2019 training camp (as a comparison, that is similar to the time frame the team elected to move on from Jacoby Brissett). So Etling, who will sign a four-year contract through 2021, is a notable part of the discussion. The Patriots viewed him as favorably, if not more, as any of the quarterbacks who were selected on the third day of the draft (Kyle Lauletta, Mike White, Luke Falk, Tanner Lee, Alex McGough and Logan Woodside).

IMO - surprising last statement.

According to Cincinnati, they were trying to trade back into the 3rd round. I wonder if there’s any chance that it may have been for Mason Rudolph?

Either way, the last sentence is indeed, interesting, because there were still many other QBs available.

Appearantly the target wasnt Rudolph their was a list of 10 players that went after the Patriots made that call.
None was a QB based on the conversation with Mike Brown sounds like Malik Jefferson was the target.

Listing the next 10 players doesn’t determine who the target was. Mike brown wouldn’t know who the target was and his whole point in blabbing is to make his pick seem better implying Belichick would have done the same. Nothingburger here, just like the trading up to 2 fallacy

Would of loved Jefferson here regardless.
Fair or unfair Im going to closely compare careers of Etling combined with our late picks compared to Mason Rudolph and the other late round QBs.

Do people seriously think they’re going to evaluate this kid as the future at the position? This is a pick with the practice squad in mind at the very least and a back-up in mind at the very most. Etling was pure garbage at the college level in spite of having talent around him on that side of the ball. He also played in an offense that kept everything close to the vest, so to speak, because of his limitations. So I’m thinking it will be practice squad or bust for him.

Comparing Etling and our other late round picks careers combined compared to Rudolphs.

See, this is what I'm talking about! Because a once in a lifetime thing happened, people are now convinced that BB is some QB guru that will find a superstar QB in the 7th round any time he wants.

Look at Tom Brady's college tape. Then look at Danny Etling's college tape. Or even just take a cursory look at their college careers. Not at all alike.
Then again, Matt cassell went on to have a half decent career, not a superstar, but he started for a few years got the Chiefs to the playoffs as their starter, and that's seriously beating the odds for a 7th rounder. So it's not like Brady was the only late round success.

I think I don't see a lot of people expecting Etling to be Brady. What I do see is some people who are intrigued with the pick and willing to see what he becomes.

The negative nancies that are saying the odds are against Etling aren't saying anything we don't already know. Let's give the kid a chance to at least practice with the team, and see what we have. You never know. Bill's been right before.

Would be more than happy if Etling became Cassel 2.0
Seems like a great kid frickin Eagle scout huge Drew Brees fan and played debilitated with a injury then picked up bad habits.
With Tom house reportedly already improving his mechanics then getting to watch Brady learn from Bill and Josh as well as Hoyer whos been able to stay in the NFL for so long.
I bet we will get the best out of Etling now that may not ever come close to Brady Brees Manning Wentz or even Foles.
However that could turn to Cassel AJ Mccaron or better.
Bill and Josh will get the very best from him and im willing to bet that it trumps the value of a 7th rounder.
Im rooting for the kid to exceed and defy expectiations.
PS would still like to see Manziel brought into camp.

So then the answer is obviously Orlando Brown
Very possible
I doubt Green based on how the rest of our draft went and how BB views the talent and depth we have at the position I bet he sees it more favorably than the majority of posters on this board.

lol why bill? He sucks. Anyone who watches sec college football knows what I’m talking about.

Guess you missed that Etling admitting to his failings and has been working with Brady's Personal QB Coach to fix his technical issues. He's a work in progress.. Hence being a 7th round pick.

Do yourself a favor and do some actual research instead of just running your yap..

Note the thread chain:

BB's ability to get to the AFCCG without Brady is relevant in the context of that chain. Brady's ability to get to the AFCCG without BB is not.

This is like an LSAT test question:

Vinny Testaverde won 50% of his NFL playoff starts with Bill Belichick as his head coach, and 33% of his NFL playoff starts without Bill Belichick as his head coach

Tom Brady won 73% of his NFL playoff starts with Bill Belichick as his head coach, and 0% of his NFL playoff starts without Bill Belichick as his head coach.

Bill Belichick has won more playoff games than any head coach in NFL history.

Question: What is Marvin Lewis' playoff winning percentage?
