31 Overall Pick Sony Michel

Kid's a stud, played at the highest level, against the best of the nation, with great results. Has championship level pedigree. Good pick.

I’m not thrilled with taking a RB (any RB) with a first round pick. I don’t think a RB is worth that kind of capital in the modern NFL, especially in NE’s offense.

We aren’t using him like Blount or Burkhead. They are drafting him to be a premier 3 down RB. Think Corey Dillon. They want that dynamic.

RB was a need.

I don't know how many times that needs to be repeated before people accept that obvious fact.
LB was a bigger need
Linebacker is a bigger need
Line backer is a bigger need

The pats have Five running backs for one spot. Gillingsly, burkhead, white, j hill, and bolden.
They have consistantly found quality running backs in the later rounds or in the case of Danny woodhead off a practise squad. While none of these guys is laveon bell or shady macoy they've been adequate. So this is a head scatcher for me.

Gilly and Hill are JAGS and one of them won't make it through camp. White and Burkhead are mostly third down specialists with Burkhead being the better of the two between the tackles, but still nothing to write home about. RB was a very large need since they lost almost 1,000 yards in production from last season to this season. Furthermore, if the Pats really DID just trade for Brown, this should be one of the better rushing offenses in the NFL next season. A three down back, like Michel, is just what the doctor ordered.

It is now. Before Michel was drafted? Not so much. This team's biggest draft needs were obvious:

LB, OT, RB, DT (if they aren't certain about the new addition/returning injured)

Unless you planned on moving Lamar Jackson to defense, any LB we could have taken at #31 is still available.

Well from what I've heard the past few weeks is you have the top 10 defensive players then 11 to 60 you could grade out the same depending on personal feelings. Saying that, I take best player available to my board.

RB was a need? We have the most depth at that position. BB took the best player available. Saying it was a need is a bit idiotic.

It was definitely a need. They lost almost 1,000 yards of production. Here's what they had at this time yesterday:
  • Gilly - JAG, often injured.
  • Hill - JAG, goal line specialist.
  • White - 3rd down specialist, struggles running between the tackles.
  • Burkhead - slightly better between the tackles than White, another pass-catching specialist.
  • Bolden - STer.
It was for sure a need.

Two points:
JVC was always more reliable than Sony....so his parents misnamed him
and
I feel better knowing Georgia has replaced Rutgers as BB's default farm team

I suppose we had depth in the sense that we had a sufficient number of bodies on the roster at that position. In terms of talent, though? Shouldn't even be a question.

That sounds to me like Georgia had an insane run blocking OL. I'm not trying to hate on the guy, I'm just saying in a lot of the highlights there are holes where even Brandon Bolden could've had similar production. There's one open field juke here and there but for the most part he's just outrunning defenders after being untouched for 10 yards

Indeed, and we didn't miss that either yesterday by drafting their Oline man too.

Got two picks to addressed this defense. Let's see what they do.

We saw the value a dynamite runner like Dion Lewis could bring to our offense last season.

White while improved as a runner remains average at best in that area. Burkhead had difficulty staying on the field and the other two are totally unreliable. It is important at this point in Brady's career to start balancing this offense more.

Michel has potential to be a top RB in the league. With the improvements on the OL, the offense should be a juggernaut at full strength.

I do believe LB is the bigger need and lament not getting Evans but RB was a significant need that has been filled.

It’s interesting that arguably the two strongest position groups in the draft were probably interior OL and RB and that if Wynn does move inside, those are where we went.

Hopefully that goes as well for the Seahawks as it went for us when we "sniped" Easley from them.
