Emanuel Sanders, signed to an offer sheet the Steelers matched we went really lowball with the offer reported said 1 million more Pittsburgh couldn’t have matched. I was pissed..
Thanks. Wow if you know the guy is good what’s 1 million extra if it guarantees you the player? Penny wise, pound foolish.

I was really disappointed.
He had a solid year with Pitt then went to Denver as a free agent.
If you remember there was contreversy around that cause he agreed to terms with KC, but never signed it then changed his mind and went with Denver and KC was furious made a big stink about it.

Of course the Patriots didnt even pick up the phone to call his agent at that Point from reports at that time.

Actually, I think it was more the injuries at safety that kept the Panthers in it.

Who were the Pats’ safeties at the end of the game?

Eugene Chung and Ted Washington.

He also torched the cornerbacks, if I recall.
He torched everyone. I feel like he never got the credit he deserves because he was so feisty. Like punching out a DT on his team because the dude wasn't playing hard enough in practice. Smith was 5'9".
Man, he was intense.
And yes, he's one of the alltime greatest receivers

Two things can be true at once.

When Steve Smith was right he was absolutely nasty. Also played with an edge some WRs just don't have. Some dog on him which I like in my WRs cause that translates vs any D. Some very good and even great WRs disappear vs certain Ds cause they just can't fight thru.

Eugene Chung and Ted Washington.
Back end always crumbled without Rodney healthy. Good thing time ran out against Carolina and Philly. Patriots were a force with Rodney and a near farce without. Eugene Chung and Big Ted back there, indeed

One of my favorite players of all time. He played the way every one of these guys should play. He wanted to beat the guy he was up against on every snap. Never once did I see him mail it in. That’s why I’m so psyched to hear him comparing Kyle Williams to himself.

I’m not a big fan of Chris Simms, but I saw a draft piece he did 3-4 months ago, when Williams was still ranked 130 overall, and he raved about him for about 20 minutes straight. And said he was a top 3 receiver in this draft when the projections had him going 5th round.

Thought this is very interesting...

After watching him some more: Jayden Higgins was the least WR I wanted for us. Seems like the Texans feel they have something: I think his Teammate who they also Drafted Jaylin Noel is better.

Higgins and Noel are different. One is 5'10" tall and one is 6'4" tall. This is the same issue where posters think Hollins might be cut because they do not appreciate height and strength in a NFL receiver but only looking at "catch rate" or "separation stats".

What's wrong with that??

Nothing as long as you look at everything. Higgins is a high 2nd round pick and Noel is a mid 3rd round pick for a reason. You only look at short reciever stats when assessing WRs. Maybe you have "N'Keal" wiplash syndrome?

The very reasoning I didn't want him here... hope he proves me wrong and workout for the Texans. P.s. Noel is the better WR right now.

I agree. It was Smith who kept the Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII. I think that, if they had signed Smith in 2014, the Patriots would have won another Super Bowl. Instead, the Patriots signed Brandon Lafell, who was, admittedly, much younger, but nothing like as good a player.
I believe the Patriots went for Smith but he turned them down in free agency. It's another what if scenario. What if they wooed him harder and offered even more money to sweeten the pot, would he have ended up a Patriot and that gives us another Lombardi?

The Steelers clearly matched it at the 11th hour to piss off the Pats. In 2014, Sanders was set to sign with the Pats again under one condition: that he gets Amendola's contract. Bill didn't want to do it, so his Agent got pissed and cut off talks with the Pats to sign with the Broncos. That came back to haunt them in the 2015 AFCCG.

He mentioned on Edelman's podcast that he wanted out of Carolina when they took Cam Newton in 2011 as he wanted to be with a contending team. He almost got traded to the Pats, but the Panthers decided not to trade him for whatever reason. I think the 49ers were the other team in the mix as well. He doesn't recall why it didn't go down or when exactly that was. He was supposed to visit NE after Baltimore in 2014, but I think the Ravens either gave him an offer he couldn't refuse, or family got involved ala Derrick Mason. Darrelle Revis just signed with the Pats, so it's mind boggling why Smith didn't realize this and join him in NE.
