Love our draft

To be fair some members on this board have a very strong track record even with guys in round 2 and 3. Of course it could be argued those players wouldn't fit in with our particular team and culture but it could also be argued they may have been even more successful here or that this same culture caused players would have been good otherwise to miss.

Personally I would hate to miss out on the knowledge and opinions I real about the draft on this board.

I'm completely joking around dude. I totally respect a good majority of draftniks op's around here. Sorry you didn't get the sarcasm vs sarcasm. Used to post there quite a bit.

I’m going to love our draft. I know that because I know that the people scouting the players, analyzing how they fit in our system, understanding the needs of the team and considering all trade options know a hell of a lot more than the people talking about what they think they should do.
I think our draft is in the best hands if could possibly be in so I will be happy with how they draft.
I am 100% self aware that my opinion if how they draft is based upon substantially less knowledge and ability to decipher that knowledge than the people making the picks. I also recognize anyone analyzing the picks is also in that same boat whether a little nearer or farther away from those levels of knowledge and ability to decipher it.

Oh no! Jinx alert! Belichick the GM is going to stick it to Belichick the head coach.

Did you feel this way just before the Patriots selected Hart Lee Dykes in the 1st round of the 1989 NFL Draft?

While I didn't pick up on the sarcasm (it's hard to tell in text without a emoji or something super obvious) I didn't mean that as an attack on you.

I just wanted to say in general that I think a lot of the draftniks here do a great job. Personally it is one of my go to sources for in depth content on draftees. I didn't mean to say it as an attack against you at all or to try to put words in your mouth.

Yes a thread blasting all the posters for stating opinions on who we should draft. I guess we should all shut out mouths just accept the greatness of such picks as Darius butler Ron brace Cyrus jones Terrence Wheatley chad Jackson ras-I dowling Adrian Klemm...
This is definitely a bizarre thread and very "Homerish" to come out and already agree with their draft picks. What's the point of being a fan or even discussing this on a messageboard if you agree with everything your sports team does?

The Pats have made a lot of bad draft picks like Ras I-Dowling which was just inexcusable. But every team has a lot of bad picks. I just hope the Pats don't fall into the trap of other teams and trade up a bunch of picks for a QB who will be standing on the sidelines while instantly weakening the team in the short term.

Didn’t have confidence in the guy drafting HLD

Never said no one should state their opinions. I said I trust the people making these decisions for the patriots more than anyone who will be analyzing what they did. Do you disagree?

The point was that BECAUSE OF WHO IS MAKING THE PICKS, I will be confident in what they do. Just tried to convey that with a little humor.

Again, never said people shouldn’t have opinions. Said Belichick and team are better at it. Do you dispute that?

I absolutely trust this regime. I will also call them out if they have a horrible draft wkend. Like the butchering of the 2nd round years back of butler and brace.

The point is you don’t know if they have a bad draft.

I understood that in your initial post but why start a thread like this? Of course the Pats are going to do everything they can to field the best team possible...they're not Browns. Lol.

So Andy, what if we take Lamar in the first, even trading up to do it?

Every team can be called out for butchering drafts, since maybe 60% of draft picks are busts relative to projection. A team that knocks the bust rate down to 40% is doing great. Does it mean they drop it to zero? No. Is that achievable? History says no.

You can also throw in Chung as he was bad in his initial stint in NE. Edelman took 4 years to have a real impact with the team partly due to Welker being there. Out of all the those picks in 2009, Vollmer was the only pick that contributed quickly. That draft was brutal and set them back a couple of years. But the most inexcusible pick was your boy Ras I-Dowling. They had all night to think about who they wanted to start day 2 with and they took that guy. At least it worked out in the end and eventually signed the guy that most people projected the Pats to take (Jabaal Sheard).

. . . yeah, clearly they should have known that he would wash out due to injuries. I mean, they had all night to think about it!

Yes and no. I wouldn't dispute they have the right people generally making the right calls but I think there have been very obvious mistakes that could have been easily avoided.

I think some people in those draft rooms in general sometimes get too close to it all and it would be helpful if they could take a step back and have an outside view of things.

I do personally believe they would have a better draft if people like Manx/Bacon were in that room and had a voice.

At least they would have said stuff like "Don't pick Easley that high. At least trade down. Don't use a 2nd round pick on Jordan Richards. He will be on the board in day 3.

I don't generally have a problem with a lot of what BB and co do but occasionally they just do stupid crap for no reason (like sitting Butler in the super bowl).

Many of the best draft picks they made were championed by people on that draft board. Trey Flowers was instantly thought of as a great steal. People loved the Mason pick.

To be fair they did picks that went against conventional wisdom a bit and worked out. Harmon at 91 was a big reach at the time... But at 91 it's hard to complain about much so I don't think anyone was too mad. That worked out great and was good value in retrospect. Vollmer at 58 was a reach but honestly not the big reach it is remembered as. There was a lot of buzz about him being on a lot of teams boards as a very solid prospect.

So while I wouldn't replace BB and Co I would like some other voices in the room to keep them from making the occasional dumb choice driven by ego.

It’s not that they are going to do everything they can, it’s that they know more than the people criticizing or praising it.
