Malcolm Jenkins gives Super Bowl tickets to man who spent 30 years behind bars

As one of the 32 nominees for the NFL’s Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award, Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins received two free tickets to the Super Bowl. Via the New York Daily News, he’s giving them to Kempis Songster.

From Songster appeal to the court....

Anjo Pryce was murdered by Kempis Songster and Dameon Brome, cocaine dealers for whom he worked, because the drug dealers had a bad day. They ran their drug trafficking business from a fortified residential abandoned house at 1435 Race Street in Philadelphia. One evening, September 17, 1987, after Songster and Brome had been hard at work all day selling cocaine, Anjo was late delivering their dinner, so Songster and Brome decided to kill him. Brome choked Anjo, while Songster stabbed him in the back and chest with a knife. After rewarding themselves with the cash from Anjo’s dead body, the two friends carried the corpse to the second floor, and then went to a local convenience store for cleaning supplies and plastic trash bags. Songster and Brome cleaned up the fluids that had spilled from Anjo’s corpse and, wrapping his remains in trash bags, drove to another location and dumped the body (N.T. 12/8/88, passim).

Seriously?? This is the guy who will be seating in the free seats he got for being nominated for being the "Man of the Year"? These players really need to start thinking, for all their crying about black lives matter, you invite a drug dealer convicted of murdering a black kid because the kid did not bring him his dinner in a timely fashion?

They really can't be this tone deaf, can they?

Imagine the people who have to sit beside this guy at the superbowl. He may have turned over his life but I would still not be comfortable sitting there.

Uh... is there more to this story that perhaps I'm missing? Because, if not, then WTF?

As far as I can tell, Songster and his co-defendant were 15 when they were arrested, and Songster changed his life in prison and has been assisting Jenkins and other NFL players in criminal justice reform.

15 years old is a mature enough age to know not to stab & murder someone then dump their corpse in a trash bag somewhere.

Jenkins seems like a pretty cool dude. Heck, most of that team outside Johnson & their fans are easy to root for.

And that's why he was convicted. No one is questioning that.

Unless there is a case of down syndrome or something else, most 15 year old's know the difference between right and wrong.

It's a big reason why he's getting Super Bowl tickets. That's what we're questioning here.

He's getting them because Jenkins and him have built some kind of bond in Jenkin's work for criminal justice reform. Jenkins can give them to whoever he wants.

You're missing the point. I can't help you.

Awkard conversation at the SB.

Vendor: Get your ice cold beer here
Songster:Man I havent had an ice cold beer since before I killed that inoocent kid back in Philly. Jail really made crave a cold one.
Family of 4 sitting next to him:Hey Kids anyone have to use the bathroom /family runs off

I personally would have given them to some terminally ill Eagles fan or something like that. Not some dude that knifed another dude when was 15 and has spent some time telling people how he's really, really sorry about it since getting released.

You think Songster will take a stab at Super Bowl squares in the week leading up to the game?

Wow. Guess he murders for those seats.

This is not about celebrating somebody who has done wrong. It is about celebrating hope, redemption and the capacity for human beings to change and do better. This guy changed his life from a troubled, nasty, drugged out 15 year old murder to something else. Think "Red" from Shawshank redemption.

Typical New England mindset. Never judge a guy for what he is -- judge him on what he used to be instead. It's easier, and avoids all that newfangled "thinking" stuff we hear so much about.
