Confirmation that Gisele tried to get Tom to retire

My super model wife hits me in the head with a board 3 times a day hoping to give me CTE.

He says as long as he can play at a high level.
But I have to think the status of the team weighs into his decision.
We have a good team - probably at least for another year or 2 so why would he retire with that?

I think we win and compete for championships for as long as he is healthy enough to play. I feel like the end is going to come from injuries mounting up, and making it hard for him to play like he is accustomed to.

My wife just noticed this while I was scrolling and it was a reminder that there are probably other women who participate/read the forum. Let's all be careful not to stereotype since mine is certainly proof that this certainly isn't accurate, and it's also not fair to the other good ones out there

As for this news, it doesn't surprise me. Given where he was in his career the hope on her part is likely to get the best of both worlds - have Brady retire both healthy and go out on top. That's probably going to be the difficult part given that he's still playing well and will have another strong shot to do it yet again in 2018. My guess is he's got probably three more years left - and that's banking on the development/addition of another QB being ready - before he's done. If the next guy is anywhere near at Garoppolo's level, I think at that point the benefit of the doubt factor as it pertains to age probably drops pretty dramatically.

Related to some comments just made by Phil Perry on this topic, I'm not sure I'd still consider Jay Feeley a serious contender for my BFF...

I see this in much the same way I see Laird Hamilton’s relationship with Gabrielle Reece, both are highly accomplished in their own fields and she is essentially retired while he continues to make a living as the greatest surfer of all time. I’m sure she worries constantly that he’s putting his life at risk every time he goes out on big waves, but that’s who she married and denying him what he loves to do the most would he destructive to his life, their relationship, and ultimately the family as a whole. Brady isn’t taking his life in his hands the way Hamilton does, but he’s definitely damaging his body if not his mind, and both are troublesome to say the least, however everyone deserves the right to live their life to the fullest and those they are closest to them recognize that’s essential to who they really are. I don’t think Brady is being irresponsible, as like Hamilton he trains and prepares incessantly to meet the challenges he will face in his field, and I’m sure both wives want them to take life easier but I also think both know who they married and their vocation isn’t a dealbreaker.

Hamilton is 13 years older than Brady and engaged in something far more dangerous, that requires far more athletic ability than playing quarterback in the NFL does, so I think Brady can make it a few more years before hanging them up.

Remember all the talk about Brady fading this year because he didn't get 4 games off. Remember when those 4 games off last year was the only reason he lasted through the Superbowl? He's not done yet.

Both Laird and Gabby vacationed in southern ME with their kids this past summer. Mrs RW and I chit chatted with them at a local bar in OGT and in can tell you two things....

1. They are both cool people
2. She is freaking tall and im 6ft

she and probably he didn't know that CTE was causing severe mental issues which is a result of repeated head trauma.
Where the hell is your evidence that Brady has "severe mental issues which is a result of repeated head trauma"????

This is all about nothing, my wife has been busting my balls for years to stop racing dirt bikes, every season we go through it...BFD! It’s what most couples experience.

Where the hell did i say brady had CTE?

Put the bottle down for a hot minute, and re read the thread.

Giselle is probably worried about Toms future, since we now have scientific proof that playing football can result is some REALLY bad mental issues, Giselle im sure would rather her husband, and the father of their children minimize his chances as much as possible.

Or do you think CTE is a myth, made up by scientists to take your guns away?

She's his wife. She's entitled to an opinion about his career and how it might affect their family.
Agreed. If I thought my husband had already made enough $$ to last a lifetime (particularly combined with my income) and he was doing a job where he came home every week banged up and exhausted, and could end up with CTE, dementia, arthritis or a whole host of other problems, I would probably ask him to retire too.

Both of the above seem to apply here
Deus, you don't know the right women.

Yeah, that's it.

I see him retiring after 2020 season unless they win seven next year in which case I could see both bill and Tom saying ok. We’re gone

What happens in their marriage is none of my business, my boundaries with #12 exist only until what happens at Gillette.. after that he deserves his privacy.

I have learned after many years of marriage, that you gotta listen, dismissing a woman's concerns will reap some poor consequences.. in this case it has to do with his health.

The Pats have already paid him about 197 million, he seems like a wise businessman.. is set for life.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but marriage has made my wife exponentially better.. cannot imagine living without her.

Not sure your life experiences, but obviously having a happy marriage does not seem to be something you value..

I doubt gisele will let jay feely come on any more family vacations...
You better believe Feeley had Tommy's blessing to talk to SI.
It's part of the continued TB12 media blitz that's going on. Same reason we got details on crazy Alex kissing Tommy's boo boo and making it better.

Good story. Imo Hamilton is the greatest athlete of all time, and he’s never competed, unless you count as a young kid. Kelly Slater has won something like 12 world titles and when asked who the greatest surfer was he responded that it was Hamilton, without any hesitation. Riding 80-100 foot waves takes a kind of strength, courage, and athleticism that very very few possess. I have no doubt that his wife wants him to take it easier, but as with Giselle she also realizes that you can’t demand that they give up what they love to do the most without damaging the relationship. I understand completely why she wants Brady to hang them up, but I also understand why he wants to see it through to the end as he sees it, especially since that ties in directly to his life after football. And while it seems ****ish to expect him to keep playing after this season I think Brady brought that on himself by insisting he was going to keep playing when they had a critical decision to make on their future at QB. Brady knew that Belichick had invested heavily in Garrapolo to get him ready to succeed him, and while I agree with Brady that he should not have to step aside while he’s still a great player I also think that by insisting that he was going to keep playing for the foreseeable future means that he was committing to that for at least the next two seasons after this one ends. I think it’s reasonable for Belichick and the Kraft’s to expect Brady to give them that while they groom a successor. It’s unfortunate that the timing didn’t work out in New England because Garrapolo looks like he would have been a good successor to Brady, but you simply cannot move on from the best player in the league while they are still the best player in football, which he clearly is.
