The Official Laugh at the Steelers Thread

Because it's offensive to say Tomlin's race is the reason why he still has a job.

Thanks for the response. I thought that a disagree would be more appropriate but if it offends you then a dislike fits.

Anyway, back to laughing at the Steelers, which is the purpose of this thread.

You should learn what "offensive" is really all about. It's toddler-level naivete to think that race can't possibly play a factor with the team behind the Rooney rule. In fact, Pittsburgh would be foolish not to take it into account during internal discussions, even if only to be prepared for any PR repercussions.

IMO there's no chance at all that Pittsburgh would face race-based PR repercussions for firing a black coach after 11 seasons. They're going to stick with Tomlin simply because sticking with long-term coaches is part of the Steelers' brand identity. It's very much a deliberate strategy -- they've had a total of 3 head coaches since 1969.

The fact is, the Steelers under Tomlin have turned into a super-talented but undisciplined team with poor situational awareness that plays down to the competition. They pulled out a bunch of last-minute wins this season thanks to the fabulous get-out-of-jail-free card of Roethlisberger throwing to Brown. IMO a stronger coach could turn that roster into a force to be reckoned with.

All current overly sensitive nonsense to the contrary? This is the league, and country, that lost its mind over Colin Kaepernick. You have more faith in it being sensible about the canning of a black coach who just guided his team to a 13-3 record than do I.

I don't feel that I have a right to tell someone else what offends them. I can however discuss why I disagree with their being offended. I don't think this is the thread to do that in though.

You have to be a special kind of silly to not understand that, given the current state of things, race could become an issue when you go to fire a black head coach who just went 13-3 and won a playoff game. And, if someone pointing out that reality is offensive to you, you don't belong posting on a message board. You should be spending your every waking hour in a dark room while curled up into a ball, because you're an emotional infant.

And.......

Scapegoat found

With #Steelers OC Todd Haley not being renewed, QB coach Randy Fichtner is considered the favorite to take his place. He's close with OL coach Mike Munchak and with Ben Roethlisberger. But no firm decision.

#Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has had incredible success with OC Todd Haley. But that relationship was not sustainable. Haley is out.

Wonder if the Rooneys cave to their minority owner pressure, and maybe name Mike Munchak assistant HC?

Interesting news note from earlier today that might (I make no claim to inside knowledge on the subject) relate to that:

Tuesday’s updates on the Cardinals’ coaching search involved word that the team wanted to schedule second interviews with Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak and Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, but at least one of those candidates is reportedly passing on the opportunity.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that Munchak has declined the opportunity to speak to the Cardinals again. There’s no reason cited for Munchak’s decision, although it’s not unreasonable to think the prospect of a change at offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh could be a factor.

Report: Mike Munchak won’t interview with Cardinals again

I think this subject is one that really needs to be discussed frankly and openly. Unfortunately, there are too many outside influences that appear to want to keep us at odds on the subject.

Given the strained relationships going on in Pittsburgh, I can't believe Seth Wickersham hasn't been sniffing around it and letting the rest of us know?

Makes me laugh that this big blockbuster story comes out, gets tossed aside by the chief protagonists with barely a thought - only for his fantasies to then materialise at our (supposedly) biggest rival in the AFC?

You couldn't make it up.

I think I'm being quite frank and open. The people who felt the emotional need to dislike posts about a possible racial issue with a potential Tomlin firing are not emotionally adult enough to be posting on message boards.

I think you're making yourself part of the problem. I also think that if they fire Tomlin after several failed attempts to lead his team through the AFCCG with a roster this talented, nobody's going to be dumb enough to decide that the problem was his race.

The guy we spent a lot of time wasting oxygen about a couple days back had a dream that people would be judged by the conduct of their character. Failing to coach a team through to the Superbowl despite the enormous talent on their roster is the conduct of Mike Tomlin's character. You don't have to be a racist to think that Tomlin isn't the guy to take that team to the next level.

You are correct that if he's fired, at least one person will be stupid enough to bring up race as part of the reason. I would have liked to have hoped that that one person in 7 billion dumb enough to do so wouldn't have been you though.

Thank you for proving my point. You have no business posting in a forum. I didn't cite to his race as a problem, because I don't personally give a damn what his race happens to be. I noted the potential for his firing to cause a problem. Big difference. but, you're apparently too emotionally stunted to see that.
