Isn't it time we talk about the weather?

I've read where there is a possibility that Saturday's game could be played under severe weather, and weather can be a great leveler in any football game.

If I'm the Titans I'm thrilled with the prospect of playing the Pats under severe weather conditions. The best part of the Titans offense is their OL going against the weakest part of the Pats defense. And while Brady might be the best bad weather QB in league history, it still affects affects his game, as well as having even more of an affect on the rest of his skill players.

A more hidden effect would be to greatly mitigate the home field advantage. If the weather is bad enough, there will be fans who won't go, and those who do will be more concerned with dealing with the weather, than being loud. It is hard to be loud, when you are battling the elements and for those red seat ****ies, its hard to loud when youi are inside.

I would still expect the Pats to win, but the weather will likely make the game much closer that it would have been under ideal conditions. I'd be nervous if I had a lot of money on this game given the weather forecast.

Disagree completely Ken, I think bad weather really helps the Patriots. First of all Mariota has no experience playing in bad weather and Brady is the best bad weather QB in football, and possibly football history. Additionally Derek Henry has real issues with ball security, and bad weather and a huge game should only add to that. Second I think Tennessee is relying upon their DLine to get to Brady, and imo the Patriots O Line is better against smaller technical DLines than they are bigger DLines, and wet conditions will make it much harder to get traction for their DL, thus harder to get to Brady. In short I think bad weather overwhelmingly favors the Patriots, and I’m not among those who think this game is a cakewalk.

That’s too bad, it would help the Patriots. You guys should be able to tough out the weather.
Rain's probably second only to wind when it comes to unfavorable conditions.

Your point's correct though. One team is fully and completely prepared for elements.

As of about 7:00am Thursday ...

Rain ends in the early afternoon.
Temperatures nosedive from the mid-50s to upper 20s by gametime.
Winds +/- 10 mph out of the NNW through the game.

Looks like it might be in the teens with the rain happening earlier in the day. Perfect football weather.
The kind of weather that Tedy Bruschi used to call "Patriots Weather," though he did prefer snow over rain.

I think I'd ask Peyton Manning about how "severe weather conditions" bother the Patriots in the Playoffs.

And, the only good thing about Gillette as a stadium that doesn't concentrate crowd noise is that it doesn't change things much if people are too cold to do anything but try to stay warm.

Marcus Mariota was born raised in Hawaii.
To gain advantage, one QB will be channeling the spirit of Ku, the Hawaiian god of strength, war, and healing...
the other QB will be renegotiating his pact with the devil for eternal life.
I expect thunderbolts over Gillette.

Brady is by every objective measure the best bad weather QB ever so if anything it would help the Pats.

That's correct but just using this opportunity to share a bit of sports culture, Ayrton Senna the Formula 1 GOAT was also the GOAT driving in the rain. People thought he used to prefer races under heavy rain given how much better he was comparing to the other drivers until he goes on a famous quote saying something like "everybody thinks I prefer the rain but no one knows how it is to be out there, you can't see **** and every curve is like walking over a razor blade".

So who knows, the GOAT's overcome difficulties but it's still a much tougher job than the regular day at the office.

Some of his achievements under wet conditions.

His very 3rd race, with the Cleveland Browns car of the F1, overtook everyone and was going to win the race if Balestre, the Goodell's F1 back then hadn't cancel the race to protect his fellow french buddy Prost to be humiliated by the rookie. Prost "won" but since the race was stopped he only got 4.5 points on the standings instead of 9 (or 6 if he settled for 2nd), and ended up losing the championship in the end of the season because of those points, take that.

First win

First win in Brazil, with a little help from the rain. After so many years struggling to win in his country, everything was going smoothly, pole position, leading the race until the car started to lose gears. The last 20 laps he was only with the 2nd and 6th gear left on the car, and ended up with only the 6th. You can hear him getting the revs up with the clutch. Manual gearbox back then. He ended up so exhausted he had muscle spasms and couldn't get out of the car. I remember that one, I was a kid.

And, "the lap"

Of course Tune, myself and countless other fans will tough out whatever the weather brings (it's the playoffs after all!!), but believe me when I tell you that rain, especially at night, with dropping temps, is probably the worst weather to endure to watch a football game at Gillette, especially on the walk back to your car with soaking wet feet. It's certainly worse than snow and right up there with extreme cold. By the way, we've already toughed out the hottest game I can ever remember (Texans) at Gillette, and the coldest one in a long time (Jets Week 17). Just like the Pats, however, us diehards will be in playoff shape on Saturday night! Go Pats! I'm thinking our awesome team won't need any kind of weather to bring home a win!

...
Agreed, but it's a good thing that the NFL has assured us that a cold rain has no impact on the PSI of a football!

Well if THAT's the case, as Roseanne Rosanadana used to say, "Nevermind"

Seriously, if that's really what the weather is going to be like, then the mods should simply delete this thread. It's a waste of space.

Unfortunately once a poster makes a Roseanne Rosanadana reference the thread becomes undeletable. It's in the rules weather you believe it or not.

Actually they are talking about the possibility of a flash freeze Saturday night. Impact may be much higher on folks trying to get home than on the game itself.
Looks that way, more a problem for the the fans getting to the game than the players. Should be colder than originally thought, looked like 30s now looks like 20s.

I can’t see how bad weather is going to help the Titans...
I think if it were heavy rain it could, whacky **** happens in down pour games. Get a lucky fumble or two and maybe you have a chance.
