Central Thread For Mourning/Canonizing Jimmy Garoppolo

Trade JG’s second rounder plus #32 and move into the top 10 and in position for one of the Big Three QBs.

Then we have our heir to Brady and most likely a really good one.

Until Jimmy G wins a super bowl there's no debate in my mind. We know TB knows how to win on the biggest stage, don't know about JG yet.

Brady has the greatest coach of all time. Even if JG doesn't win the SB, that doesn't mean JG's future performance isn't be better than Brady's future.

The thing that Brady apologists don't get is that JG looks incredibly good right now. He's turned a team from potential worst in league to playoff calibre. He also looked really good in his 1.5 games last year. He's not a flash in the pan. He has composure, leadership, drive, etc.

Now, even with the above, I don't tihnk trading him was wrong. I do, however, think the Pat's could've taken the approach this year where they play Garropollo more in the 4th q or whenever we have a 10+ pt lead. It would give Brady some rest -- meaning more likilhiood he would be injury free in the playoffs as most of the recent playoffs he has not been 100%. Also would've showcased Jimmy so that when we traded him in this offseason we could've gotten a better pick.

We wouldn’t get squat. He is a UFA.

btw, its not only pats fans that are obsessed/interested in jimmy. reddit.com/r/nfl is also very pro-jimmy -- i think most serious fans across the country realize he's a star

we put the franchise tag on cassel and got a 2nd. Like I said, if Garrapollo was showcased and Brady given some rest, I think we would've gotten a 1st even with the high price of the franchise on the receiving team, and also the benefit of him as a backup thru the playoffs this year.
SF could probably get 2+ 1st round picks this offseason if they choose to trade him after he's played just 6 more games.

There is zero chance we would get a first round pick for JG and that kind of contract.

They have to sign him first. And even if they did- any value he gained is because he has picked up the experience he had zero chance of getting here barring injury to Brady.

Mop up duty =/= “experience”

The only way they could trade Garrapolo this offseason would be to franchise him at 25 million, meaning they would have no free agency to improve the team as they would be hamstrung by that cap hit until Garrapolo was traded, and everyone would know that. I would have loved to see them trade him for better picks last year before the draft but Belichick wasn’t interested in doing that. He apparently felt that using Garrapolo as insurance and taking less to determine where he went was more important to him.

The really puzzling thing is why Belichick didn’t shop him before the draft?

Then why did he scoff at Lynch when Lynch asked if Brady was available?
What's that got to do with shopping Garoppolo before the draft?

everyone knows jimmy G looks good right now after 6 games. but brady brought five super bowls to this team in 16 years.

That’s when the conversation took place. Lynch called and asked if Garrapolo was available, Belichick said no, then he asked if Brady was available and Lynch said Belichick literally scoffed at him. That doesn’t sound like a GM looking to move in from his 40 year old QB.

Who said anything about moving on from Brady before the season started? I didn't. The answer to your question is obvious: BB wanted to find a way to keep both QBs.

You’re a smart guy Tunescribe, you know that was impossible.

BB tried to keep JG by signing him to a bridge deal and JG wouldn't bite. BB suggested so himself indirectly during the presser that announced the trade. It explains why he didn't move him earlier.
