Gilmore returns, BUT...

Yes, it's a bad thing to get a talented CB back... Hopefully he did a lot of studying while hurt.

It's been abundantly clear that the communication issues have been significantly lessened in Gilmore's absence, so I'm not sure why anyone would give a sarcastic response to libra for his post.

Not sure if his return is a good thing...as, the defense improved without him :/
If he’s got the defense down, it’s definitely a good thing. If he doesn’t, we'll start seeing blown coverages again quickly. If that happens, I don’t think he’ll be starting for long. Hopefully it’s a non-factor though.

Brown went out with foot injury. High hurt his shoulder. Who knows with him. Rowe is gone for a while with the torn groin. Not sure about DA.

Gilmore, and the defense as a whole, played well in Tampa. So those issues appear to have been fixed before his absence.

It will be nice having him back.

Probably because they were corrected before his absence, ie Tampa game

Hopefully he comes back does his job and we can move on. If not he is in trouble not the team

In other words he will have a short leash. If he struggles, he will be led to the bench.

Contract or no contract, I can't see Bill Belichick keeping any player on the field that is confused to the point where blown coverages begin happening left and right again.

How you got a disagree is beyond me.

Gilmore was excellent vs Tampa and they allowed 14 points.

Gilmore was out vs NYJ and the D clearly was not as good without him.

The D was very good at home vs ATL but I question how good their offense really is.

Tampa is the #2 ranked offense in the league currently, too. So it's not like they were defending against a scrub unit.

"Abundantly" in what way?

Gilmore's last game: the Patriots were facing the second ranked offense (yards per game) and 10th ranked in scoring.
Gilmore's first game out: the Patriots were facing the 21st ranked offense (yards per game) and 20th in scoring.

Total net passing yards allowed Tampa: 319
Total net passing yards allowed Jets: 334

While the above proves little, it does suggest that it is not abundantly clear communication or anything else was fixed with Gilmore removed from the mix. The better performance again ATL may also be explained by a natural progression of practice, film review, seasoning, better game planning.

Tampa is demonstrably more potent on offense yet we were less successful than the Jets who are considerably less potent on offense. Why is this single game circumstantial evidence dismissed while the single ATL game is abundant proof?

So I'd repeat what I've said ad nauseum in multiple posts: 4 games exist of Gilmore on video. Where is the film, and stats/metrics, that quantify Gilmore being a communication/general problem on pass defense? I'll buy into Gilmore being the problem, however, how about some data to back it up (of which I have seen posted of PF one play broken down where Gilmore may have blew his assignment)?

Yep and the Vikings held them to 17 are 4th in yards allowed and 5th in points.

I'm convinced the Pats have a good D. Might not be as good as last year's but it will continue to get better and be acceptable

Hightower is the big mystery here. Hopefully he can play, they are significantly better with him in there. I'm sure BB will give a detailed account of Hightower's injuries and short and long term prognosis for his health in his afternoon press conference.
