The Defense: Why I'm Relatively Optimistic

He sucks. Probably one of the biggest vaginas on this forum. Imagine how badly he panics when things don't go according to plan in his waking life.
It cracks me up when people pull the "they should be embarrassed" and "that is unacceptable" crap.
As if they have more at stake than the players and have a personal standard that the players aren't living up to.

Nope. Try putting down the kool-aid down once in awhile mr know it all.

Remember its just a game guys, its not the end of the world if the Pats lose. I think fans have been spoilt by the success that this franchise has experienced with Belichick and Brady that they fail to see the bigger picture sometimes.

2-2 is not a disaster when you think about it and the other teams in the AFC excluding KC aren't looking that great. Its a plus that it was an NFC team that they lost too and not an AFC team. If they win four straight before the BYE they will be in great shape.

They should be embarrassed by today's game. That was unacceptable.

BB will explain that to them, to be sure.

I don't know why a poster who points that out should crack you up, but to each his own.

I'm not surprised that you don't. And yes to each his own.

It was unacceptable for sure. But I see a lot of the issues as communication issues. Gilmore was responsible for 14 points (IIRC) alone from blown coverages. That's an issue that I expect to resolve itself over time.

I can't even enjoy offense because this defense is so bad.

It's like having sex with the most beautiful, kinkiest woman you've ever met, and right after you're finished, her 70 something year old dad walks in and mounts you from behind.

He had the same problems in week 1 and against Houston. What the heck's going on with this guy?!

There is no optimism here....they suck, that is all. It isn't a talent problem either, it is a leadship and communications problem, no leadership on the defense and IM disappointed in Mccourty, he should have set Gilmore straight on the TD by Carolina...total screw up. The Gimore committing hands to the face twice,....not that hard, keep his hands down and I bet thats been coached already...the defense sucks, they awful and there is no quick fix.

He's trying to master the hardest defense in the NFL to learn. Same with Marsh and others. His learning curve is just more exposed because he's often matched up with the WR1 and WR2. If you watch "Football Night in America", both Dungy and Rodney just said the same thing.

About who Gilmore?

So...you believe this? Or do you have actual experience to draw on.

They are doooooooooooooomed. But don't make any ski trip plans Feb 4.

For me the worst part was when Harmon said in his presser that they had already simplified the defense as much as they could. For them to still be having trouble, especially with bunches- I don't know where they go from here. It will require nothing short of a miracle.

I expect Gilmore to be benched for Thursday's game, but if Rowe is out- we'll have no choice. Gilmore was benched for the 2nd half until Rowe came out IIRC.

It was a nasty surprise for me, to find out today, from Howe, that the Pats didn't even host Gilmore before signing him. That runs counter to their usual practice of hosting FA's before signing them to big contracts.

NE-VT posted an excellent article about BB's 4-3/ 3-4 hybrid defense which only discussed the front 7 but just reading that gives you an idea of how complicated the defense is. Left side is playing 4-3 tech while the right is playing 3-4 etc....

Question for you though. Why wouldn't they just let MB and Gilmore play man with McCourty over the top? Or do they need to play zone to protect the LB crew during passing plays?
