Is the guy still recovering and not the same player? I thought he would be getting more snaps...guy was electric before the injury.

I just realized that this is the first game the Pats lost with him actively playing.

It is odd that he is at the very bottom of the totem pole. It makes me think he could be traded for help elsewhere.

I love our RBs and we have alot of versatility. But seemed hard to get into/keep a rythym just getting spot carries here and there.

I felt white ran well but dont recall him catching many. Lewis seemed the least used.

Burkhead had a no gain and a decent run and one pass where they missed a PI badly.

Still kind of hard to figure out our direction outside Gilislee is in the blount role.

But Jordan Richards got to play most of the game at LB...........

.

Weird.... I was feeling the same way. Lewis saw so few snaps despite being healthy.

I know he was used on kick returns primarily, so it could be a pitch count kinda thing. But he definitely needs to split more reps with Burkhead and White. He was clearly under-user on offense. Why? I dunno

Running backs typically prefer to get plenty of snaps for continuity and a feel for the game. Last night's game plan obviously was to get White and Gillislee involved.

Patriots RB Snap Counts, Week 1 vs Chiefs:
43 snaps -- 53% -- James White
10 carries, 38 yards, long of 10 yards; 3 rec on 5 targets, 30 yards, long of 26

24 snaps -- 30% -- Mike Gillislee
15/45, 3.0 ypc, 3 TD, long of 16; zero receptions, zero pass targets

10 snaps -- 12% -- Rex Burkhead
3 carries, 15 yards, 5.0 ypc, long of 14; 1 reception for 8 yards on 3 targets

6 snaps --- 7% --- Dion Lewis
2 carries, 9 yards, 4.5 ypc, long of 5; zero receptions, zero targets
3 kick returns: 26 yards (to the 27); 13 yards (to the 14); 10 yards (to the 18)

Well, there goes Dion Lewis' undefeated record when being on the active roster for the Pats.

White is a better back

besides, Lewis is doing KR....be nice if he could do punts
a healthy Lewis is a better back than White IMO...more shake and bake, more yards after contact.
I'm assuming he's not the same player as pre injury, but with limited snaps it's tough to judge. Coach BB sees him every day, so I guess that all that matters.
Burkhead getting paid some good $$ for seeing just 10 snaps.

White caught 3 of 5 targets, including one for 26 yards.

According to Reiss:

RUNNING BACK SNAPS:

James White – 43

Gillislee – 24

Rex Burkhead – 10

Dion Lewis – 6

Not disagreeing with you but I think they need him to somehow fill some of the Edelman void. I say that because I think he has the explosiveness to create separation in the short routes.

a healthy lewis is something like a unicorn.......you can't count on something that might only be around half the time

what's the difference between 'shake and bake' and dancing? Lewis is healthy and White is getting the snaps

did we forget how great he was pre injury?

I would've liked to see Lewis get some of the handoffs White was given. Especially a couple of those down around the 10 yard line, where White got it twice in a row and lost yards.

To me, he hasn't regained the explosiveness he had pre-injury. Whether he will in time remains to be seen.

A guy like Lewis is a nice piece to have, but he's been in the league since 2011 and never topped more than 283 yards or 2 TDs (rushing or receiving) in a single season.

I think it's a bit more than just recovering from the injury, although that would depend on exactly which injury you're referring to.

I think he's more like a leprechaun than a unicorn, but your point still stands.

Some here actually predicted that he'd be our lead back, which shocked me so much I couldn't figure out if they were geniuses or morons.
