Shocks, Surprises and Disappointments

Is there a new definition of "couple" that I'm unaware of?

Some hardliner religious types and LBGT community members having been having this exact debate, but somehow I don't think that was your point.

So they haven't played a snap yet and you think they have declined?

It's not surprising at all, Rhoda, Captain Stone, Triumph and the rest of the whiney biatches rail on them every season, and quit on them at any sign of adversity. I guarantee they quit on them at least five times last season.

1) Before the season. Brady out four games and Belichick had destroyed the roster with his terrible decisions. ( a yearly gripe)

2) the Seattle loss. They lost a game, time to jump off the Charles.

3) When Collins was traded. Belichick lost his mind and the team, no way they can recover. Time to bring Pete Carroll back

4) When Gronk went out for the season. They barely won with him, no way they could win without him.

5) 28-3 Beddie bye for the whiney biatches, Belichick blew another Lombardi.

Fortunately they are easy to spot as they all wear footie pajamas and sport binkies.

Shock: Jacoby Brisket for Phil Dorsett. I'm no Brisket fan, but Dorsett is trash,
as we'll all learn soon enough.

Surprise: Ted Karras waived. Again, I'm no Mongo Jr Jr fan, but we now have
the Worst - by far - backup OLmen in football.

Disappointments: every…single…move…made by this clown car of a front office
during this weekend.

Clearly the most incompetent front office in all of sports. Oh, except for the Celtics.

I'm a bit puzzled with the OL but I won't judge it before I see what Scar does with them.

The way I see it we have an awesome defense and even without Jules we have an awesome offense.

Wasn't expecting the brissett trade but that's just bill being bill. I love it.

Seems to me he wanted to improve on special teams and he did it, we'll see how that works on the field.

I still don't understand what Richards is doing on this team but whatever.
For that matter, for all the seeming respect Scar gets around here, there doesn't appear to be much consideration that Scar has a say in who stays and who goes on the OL.

I think that Moore is a likely PS candidate. Reminds me of Brandon King a few years back.. We'll know at the 2 pm practice..
He's already been picked up.

Really? Would have never have guessed after the numerous posts saying it... Including by myself.... But then, replying to a post 7 hours after the original will do that to you....

I was happy Bill finally got rid of his binky (Brandon Bolden) until I read this 2017 NFL roster cuts: Patriots release RB Brandon Bolden, but want to "keep him around"

Ugh. Versatility is great. But what's the point when you don't do any one thing particularly well? Always hated seeing him get the ball and felt like it was a wasted down. I was worried they might keep him at the expense of Lewis.

I look at Blount as a RB in the same manner as Matt Slater as a WR, Brandon King as a S, Barkevious Mingo was a LB, etc. His role is/was to play special teams. The position play is very much a secondary role, to be used only in case of emergency due to injury.

Bolden only saw appreciable playing time twice: in 2013 when Shane Vereen was injured, and in 2015 when Dion Lewis and then LeGarrette Blount were injured.

Bolden had to have done 'one thing particularly well': his primary role as a special teams player. He would not have lasted five seasons if he didn't do his job, and do it well.

Fear not though. With the additions of Marsh, Flowers and Bademosi, the need for Bolden on special teams has dramatically decreased. There's a good chance he won't be back.

Sorry if my tardiness offended you.

A work in progress...

...wait until he's done.

Rivers is on IR. Need add more Flowers to the picture. More Branches, perhaps?

Regards,
Chris

Yup

Belichick decided to upgrade ST's with his additions. This hurt Freeny, Bolden and O'Shaughnessy.

Richards, another Ster, made it primarily because he's the #4 safety. We even have another STer on the PS (Grissom).

Jordan Richards was so valuable on special teams that he was inactive during the 2017 NFL Playoffs.

I think the Patriots have taken a multi-pronged approach to dealing with this famine:

  • Draft/sign players from schools with elite OL coaches, e.g. Iowa and Florida State, even if they don't have all the measurables
  • Draft lots of OL in the mid/late rounds of the draft, and see who sticks.
  • Take a chance on athletic potential, and see if Dante Scarneechia can coach them up.

Two thoughts here:

  • Don't forget that they're also training Scar's replacement, Cole Popovich, who played for Fresno State (where the Pats found Logan Mankins).
  • If you think OL coaches are bemoaning OL play, wait a couple of years. You'll hear the weeping and mourning of the QB coaches even louder.

For that matter, for all the seeming respect Scar gets around here, there doesn't appear to be much consideration that Scar has a say in who stays and who goes on the OL.

I think he has the primary say in the who, if not the when. He scouted every OL they took during his "retirement."

Let's wait until Thursday before we start prognosticating about Bolden. IIRC the Pats have to wait until tomorrow before they can IR someone and activate them later. So there will likely be one or two roster spots opening up.

Hey--no need to bring my sexual fetishes into it.

I can't believe that I'm even saying this, but it's difficult for me to imagine the team without Bolden. He's a well respected, seasoned veteran leader who seems to be one of Belichick's faves. I'd be surprised if he weren't brought back soon.

I also read that he was often seen in the OL meetings once a week, helping to break down film. It was from a fairly credible source, (not Volin) but I can't seem to locate the article.

He's saying that although Richards is a ST contributor, he was mainly kept to back up the SS position, and I fully agree with him.

It would've been great to have seen one of the UDFAs take over his spot, but it appears as though they weren't ready yet. Luckily, I believe that we may have retained two on the PS.
