Shock: Trading for Dorsett
Surprise: Croston + Waddle over Karras
Disappointment: The injury luck at PR and EDGE

Shock: Jacoby Brisket for Phil Dorsett. I'm no Brisket fan, but Dorsett is trash,
as we'll all learn soon enough.

Surprise: Ted Karras waived. Again, I'm no Mongo Jr Jr fan, but we now have
the Worst - by far - backup OLmen in football.

Disappointments: every…single…move…made by this clown car of a front office
during this weekend.

Everything sucks...... but now it sucks more

Interestingly most beat reporters (Reiss, Perry, Giardi) disagree with this assessment and were talking him about a sneaky, potential 53 candidate in the last week. They said he looked at times like the third best tackle out there. When did you watch him ?

It seems that Belichick disagrees with them.

It sure is disappointing how the two prime positions of need turned out (for now) despite considerable investment and effort.

@OL

Pats invested a lot in OT position with a look at improving 2017 backup position/competition and ensuring better transition to the uncertain waters of 2018 (and possibly beyond)

They brought 5 new tackles to Dante's inferno and it seems all but 1 burned. And the 1 survivor (Croston) was placed strictly at G initially and only later saw snaps at T when Garcia and Waddle went down.

It is disappointing to see Waddle using a roster spot (and some cap space) again after all that effort . and solid versatile 3-position IOL backup Karras cut - as the result at the moment.

It is also disappointing 2018 remains a total ? re LT.

@ “DE“

From the solid rotational group of 2016 only Flowers remained.

It was a solid investment w bringing in Ealy, Rivers and Wise while keeping Ninko and Grissom . unfortunately - again - it seems to be only 1 survivor (Wise) and even he is an injury prone athlete currently in concussion protocol.

After all investments and effort they had to use 2 additional picks for last moment trade to bring some depth to the position.

Strong emergence of Guy, also good progress of Butler, Langi and the expected move of Hightower to the edge makes the unfortunate turn of events much easier to take..

Shock
The overall sense of negativity in response to the cutdown day. In my view, depth issues at WR/PR and DE were solved with young, inexpensive, high ceiling players. Dorsett may be a "bust" by 1st round pick standards, but he is an established NFL player who brings a unique skill set to the table and will allow the offense to scheme Cooks into the slot without sacrificing deep speed. Marsh was a solid backup on one of the best lines in the league last year. He fits the size profile for a Patriots tweener and was a more productive pass rusher than Ninkovich. Yesterday was a win.

In regards to blown draft picks, perception is relative to pick number. Yes, we can look to blown opportunities in the form of Aaron Dobson, Dominique Easley, Jordan Richards, Jacoby Brisset and maybe Cyrus Jones. To do this is to ignore recent gems like Trey Flowers, Malcolm Mitchell, Shaq Mason, Elandon Roberts, not to mention the high round talent we have acquired via trade at low price (Rowe, VanNoy, Dorsett, Marsh). Think of it this way, had Flowers been picked in round 2, and Richard in round 4, we'd be singing a very different tune about the 2015 draft.

Surprise
It seems that we are so knowledgeable about the quality of backup OL on all 32 teams that we are capable of evaluating and ranking the quality of Fleming, Waddle and Croston. It may not be an inspiring group, but few backup OL are.

Disappointment
Injuries and retirements. Losing Edelman, Ninkovich, Rivers and Garcia hurts. Two months ago, the Patriots were the unbeatable cartoonish supervillans of the NFL. Now, after some attrition, they are merely Super Bowl favorites.

Well the thing is there are plenty of moves left going forward, players going to IR other players filling those spots, layers being claimed of waivers players being added to PS and on and on.

More back of the roster stuff to keep fans up all night.

SHOCK: Brissette for Dorsett

SURPRISE: Trade for Marsh.

DISAPPOINTMENT: Karras cut. Hope he gets to the PS.

Karras will be back on the Roster as soon as they process the players going to IR. None of that was done yesterday..

You must be on some serious meds buddy

Shock: Cutting Ted Karras with, as of yet, no replacement in sight. (No, I don't consider Croston a replacement. Karras is a C/G, Croston a G/T -- and I projected BOTH to make the roster.)

Surprise: Brissett/Dorsett. That came out of left field for me, but it does make sense.

Disappointment: I really liked Kenny Moore, I thought he showed a lot both in coverage and ST, and his occasionally missteps seemed to come from pressing too hard to make an impresssion. But the moment the Bademosi trade was announced, I knew Moore was gone.

Thanks BB.

isn't karras subject to waivers?

I think that Moore is a likely PS candidate. Reminds me of Brandon King a few years back.. We'll know at the 2 pm practice..

One consistency of the past several seasons is that the roster is a work in process for the first ten days. The team makes decisions based on their own roster and then evaluates players available over the next couple days.
Players like Richards or Croston shouldn't get too comfortable yet.
