Jarvis Landry??

Due to the trade and his dead cap #, Allen is a lock. He caught as many balls as Gronk this preseason

Something about him...he just hasn't shined at all to me. Not in practice or the game.

Yet they somehow managed 4 AFCCG appearances and 2 SB titles without him.

Yes obviously. But our offense with the two tight end monster 2010-12 was fun to watch. And last year we did find a great tE2 in Bennett. But bennet is gone now.

I just think TE2 is an important part of the patriots offense, and opens up a lot of stuff for other players if he's contributing

Two tight ends will have a bigger role I think as opposed to trying to use someone to replicate Edelman's game. The offense will evolve into something different. It will still be great.

I hope Allen shows something come the season but I ain't holding my breath. I rather see shaughnessy get some reps.

Yep. He may wind up sucking but hes not going anywhere.

It is important but they can score a ton of points and win titles without it.

Again, have you seen him actually trying to run routes compared to Edelman ?

He is not close to be a competent slot receiver in the NFL. I don't understand why people get so distracted by testing numbers, when all you need to do is actually watch Carr during one of the preseason games to see that he is not ready.

You might want to take your own advice and actually watch him run routes. Because that cut was so sharp he blew right by the defender, who had inside leverage on him, too.

No one is saying he's just to pick up where Edelman left off. But "not close" to being a merely competent slot reciever. Yeah right.

And Lewis won the job through his play, Foster hasn't.

Foster hasn't. Yet.

Lewis has been in the league since 2011. Foster is just starting his second season.

Too bad Dwayne Allen has been awful as the TE2..really need him to turn it around otherwise he's gone when the season ends.

Allen has always been a much better blocker than pass-catcher - never anywhere close to Bennett's level as receiver. No idea why anyone might've been expecting more.

Can't get over how Big and Slow Allen looks he's like Scott Chandler pt.II. Edelman is known to make those Big Catches over the middle and take a pounding. We can't risk Gronk consistently in those situations coming back from back surgery he won't last the year. Gronk needs help in that area and I am not talking about only from our RB's. TE #2 needs to be factor both blocking and catching.

Actually, more like James Develin's twin. Same height and weight. Allen is slightly more athletic.

I expect amendola to do a good job but he's not edelman which means that Mitchell will really have to make big plays for us. I expect some teams to scheme against cooks. They will put the safety over the top. A year where I feel that gronk has to stay healthy the whole year and that's not a given.

They were going to need to do that even when Edelman was going to play.

He's going to have to have a 300 yard 5 td performance Thursday to make it a contest.

Since Lewis has produced 1200 yards and 6 TDs rushing + receiving in his entire NFL career, that could put Foster over the top.

Problem is the Patriots WR tree usually doesn't completely lay out the route presnap. Most (especially the slot) have more than one route dependent on the defense. If this was one of those routes, he went the wrong way. The defender had inside leverage and the outside defender jumped the underneath. He should have broke out. He's got the physical ability but it's that "being on the same page as Brady" that's most important. Edelman and Welker both had that in spades.

You might want to take your own advice and actually watch him run routes. Because that cut was so sharp he blew right by the defender, who had inside leverage on him, too.

He's by NO means Edelman, but he has that same "stutter, hop, skip/cut" route down-pat similar to an Edelman.

Like I've been saying all summer, I'd be very happy with 35 catches from Allen, whose main mission will be as a blocking beast.

As someone else noted, even Bennett only averaged 29 ypg as the TE1 once Gronk went down, so like you said, I have no idea why anyone would think that Allen was going to do a lot of damage in the passing game?

He should be a nice RZ target and block with force.
