Looks like Mitchell won't be ready for Week 1

Reiss is more in tune with the Pats than me...If he says he doesn't think he will be ready by week 1...i believe him...but lets hope he's back soon
It's not a matter of being in tune.
He was asked if he will play and said if he can't practice he can't play. He has another week to get in the practice field before it reaches that point.

He could turn out to be right but he is saying nothing here that we didn't know

Mike Reiss has zero clue. He's basing Mitchell's availability for a game that doesn't happen in 10 days on him not practicing today. So what if Mitchell returned to practice tomorrow or Wednesday?

Also going by this logic every guy that is assured to make the 53 that isn't practicing today won't be ready for Week 1. So that means no Solder Week 1.

I wouldn't make the assumption that Reiss is basing his opinion solely on the fact that Mitchell missed today's practice. Mitchell has been hobbled for a good portion of Camp, and he hasn't practiced since O'Shaughnessy rolled up on him.

Solder, as it turns out, DID participate in practice today. It was originally reported that he didn't because he wasn't on the field for the warm-ups that were open to the media. However, he WAS seen coming back off the field and into the locker room dressed for practice afterward. In any case, Solder did practice last week. Mitchell did not.

Reiss is a fine reporter but hes coming across as if hes never followed the team before.

BB treats MM with kid gloves.

Last season Danny Amendola wasn't practicing until the last week and came up huge on week 1 against the Cardinals.

I hear you, but there's probably at least some small difference between a vet nursing an ankle all Camp and a 2nd-year guy who re-injures a bad knee two weeks before the end of Camp.

I'm not as sold on Mitchell as some. Dobson had more catches in his rookie year and he didn't turn out so well. Now we have an injury issue right off the bat with Mitchell this year.

If EVER there was a year where dressing 4 WR's is no problem, this is it.

There are 4 pass catching RB's, any of whom can split out. We are going to see lots of 2 RB sets, and I believe we were going to even before the Edelman injury.

Cooks, Hogan, Gronk, and pick 2 RB's at any time. That leaves Amendola, Mitchell, the other 2 RB's, and the other TE on the sidelines available for touches.

The real problem with the Edelman injury is it's already one down in the NFL seasonal attrition game. The next injuries, God forbid, become more and more costly.

Dobson received so many targets because in 2013 Brady had no one else to throw to. Mitchell on the other hand earned targets on a stacked roster. Big difference.

Not sold on Mitchell, yet you think Austin Carr will make people somewhat forget Edelman
Carr will make us forget JE (somewhat).

Huge difference between the 37 catches Dobson had and the 32 catches Mitchell had and if you can't see or admit what the difference was then you are clearly trolling

How about Anquan Bolden who steps back from retirement?
He is a solid slot guy. Maybe no more YPC but more of a red zone threat than JE.
Would Bills get comp? Don't know. Guaranteed catches. He wanted a playoff Team. Guaranteed catches.
Mitchell is glass. Dola might be.
The old guys get together with Brady and Bolden.
I have seen nothing from Lucien.
Another slot guy who is a FA is Bryan Walters
27 Catches as a back up on the Jags, (no QB talent)
DW TOYS

You just keep throwing **** against the wall. The Bills have his rights and will definitely not give those up for him to join the Patriots for any reasonable price. Also as BB says.. once you start thinking about retirement, you are retired..

That's a good point, but I often don't jump on the bandwagon for an unproven player like some fans do. So far so not too bad with Mitchell. He certainly made some great contributions in the SB. I am unconvinced he is going to be a long-term part of the WR scheme here, yet. I am rather inspired by what I have seen from Carr so far though. He looks like he can play in this league.

He has 8 posts in like 6 years. They cant all be winners.

Hunh? I'm trolling because I see some similarity between Dobson and Mitchell's first seasons? Just, wow.

Is this one of those boards where if you don't join the BORG you are beset?

My level of concern goes way up if Mitchell isn't able to go, but as we've talked about in the past, I think it's going to be difficult to bring in an outsider unless there's another injury and they're planning to groom him for the stretch run. Even then, it's very possible they'd prefer to stay with someone who has been practicing with the system or bring in a guy like Keyshawn Martin.

Other than their stats were similar what else do you see about them that is similar?

Bold prediction: Mitchell doesn't make the roster. Can't make the club from the tub.

Just kidding

On the Carr thing....

Of course I think Edelman has been a fine player for us and is perhaps the most likeable guy on the entire team. He has as much heart as any player we have probably ever had. I've just seen from Carr some moves that cannot be taught and occasionally I get a hunch on somebody (and I'm mostly right since I seldom do that). This is just one of those times. I'm not prepared to go to the mat insisting Carr is for real, but I think he is, based on not that much of a sample.

I wonder if the Pats put in a claim on him. They could easily cut Tony Washington, plug Martin into practice tomorrow, and then into the game on Thursday to get him back up to speed.

Not that much in this regard; Mitchell can actually run routes where they are intended to be run, unlike Dobson.

My point on the Dobson comparison is in that many fans conclude a player is for real before they are actually shown to be for real. That is the crux of my comparison.

Yeah, I think Martin is one of the more obvious options unless he left behind a sour taste. He looked serviceable when used correctly and the team would at least know what they are getting in him.
