Ravens owner admits to considering non-football factors with Kaepernick

Considering the quality of QB's in the NFL Kapernick should be a back up on some roster, however the words of Bisciotti after his silence regarding Lewis and Rice is hypocritical X 3...

To say this has nothing to do with his politics is a bunch of bullshyt..

This.

Seriously, for a country that supposedly is proud of its history of free speech its extremely ridiculous how his kneeling and comments made him a bigger persona non grata than human dirtbags like Greg Hardy, Richie Incognito or Terrell Suggs. Seriously, **** that.

Two completely different issues.

One group of players should be suspended or in jail and for the people who don't know any better should be ashamed of themselves.

Kap has every right to do what he did but with that said, everyone who disagrees with his position also has a right to give him hell for it.

As there are many examples, Free Speech doesn't mean free of consequences

I applaud Kap standing up for what he believes in, but I don't think he thought it through (effect and how it could be interpreted by others). Also, I'm not sure what it accomplished. It got people talking, but as is the issue (I see) with all these movements they are talk (or really getting people emotionally wound up) without a plan or clear goal.

It is obvious that the "Non-Football" factors is the main reason he is not being called. I mean, I know that he kinda sucked recently, but he was a GREAT QB for a season and I've seen back-ups in this league who simply can't play, so are they really worse than Kap? No to give him 1/90th of a roster spot? Please

I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with his actions, btw. Also, there are other factors like that he sucked recently, prob wants good money, doesn't seem focused... Still, biggest factor, to me, is the "Non-Football" factor, which is such a dumb name

maybe so, but you know what those back-ups aren't? A controversial media circus and huge distraction.

A back-up is supposed to sit there and hold the clipboard, not be a lightning rod that brings negative attention to their team. Actions btw that are his own choosing and these are the consequences of those actions. He made his bed, now he is laying in it

Freedom of speech does not include freedom from the consequences of that speech.

People are free to disagree with you and choose not to employ you because of the speech you choose to make. It's called life

? He's not getting locked up or shot in a back alley some where by the government, he's getting nonviolent consequences from other citizens. The owner has free speech and choice too, doesn't like what Kap is saying and doing, doesn't want him around. Of course that's also hypocrisy on the owner's part as well, but who among us is completely consistent?

Free speech goes both ways. If he wants to exercise his right to take a knee, those that disagree are free to exercise their rights to give him some blowback for it. Free speech isn't there to protect only what you agree with.

Still not sure why everyone cares so much about a QB who sucks and doesn't care about football.

Totally agree.

Also, doesn't the Ravens offense rely on a tall guy who can throw far? Kaepernick wouldn't fit anyways even if he was good. A better fit would be to get Kyle Boller to unretire.

This is not a free speech issue. Nobody is going to jail or being punished by the government so this has nothing to do with his right to free speech (not to mention the fact that while you have free speech, your employers can punish you for saying the wrong thing at work).

Kap is unsigned because his talent (or lack thereof) does not justify the hassle and distraction he brings. Same thing happened to Tebow. Are the people who run NFL teams hypocrites? You bet'cha. Thanks for the insight. But if you're not good enough to start, you're not good enough to start ****.

Mr. Tebow, for the record, is currently playing a half decent left field in A ball for the Mets system. He's not a spectacular ballplayer but he might just have a fighting chance. If he can make the jump to AA this year or next, he's got an outside chance of cracking a big league roster.

And if we didn't have 2 good starters and 1 interesting young backup, I'd have expected BB to kick the tires on Kaepernick. Politics aside, you can add a guy who has been pretty good for under market value? It's the sort of thing he'd get in on if he thought there was a chance to get some useful play out of him. If Kaepernick can leave his politics at the door and be professional on the football field, he's probably someone BB would look at if we needed a QB. Don't forget, once upon a time we did sign Tebow too.

We don't have any need to go there because we have a great quarterback situation, obviously, but if controversy drives the price of a player low enough relative to skill, you almost have to kick the tires. And Kaepernick has been very good, a little faith placed in him at the right time might yield wonders.

Um, he would be a starter for the jete.

Couple other teams he'd also start for I think. I have to think that if the Texans decided to go that route Kaepernick could probably outplay Osweiler. Not that that's much of a contest.

Comeback player of the year. You can book it now!

God.

I never wrote that what Kaep did falls under free speech or that he should skate without consequences. The only reason I mentioned the term "free speech" is to emphasize how liberty and freedom are two things that are inherent in the American heritage/culture. Of course everyone is free to give him as much blowback for it as everyone wants, I don't care. What I do care about is the hypocrisy that him disagreeing on a political matter warrants this kind of blowback more than actual violence against children, women or anybody really.

That's what you call damning someone with faint praise, but even then I am not so sure it is accurate.

Obviously he hasn't played very well the last couple of years, and without knowing how much of a salary hit he is willing to take it is hard to judge this stuff. E.g., is he willing to work for less than 4 million or does he think he deserved 8 million like has been reported (but he denied)? The claim that it is purely football-related reasons has always seemed a bit naive to me, but without knowing all the economic factors, it has been hard to say for sure.

However, this stuff from the Ravens owner seems to put any arguments to rest that non-football factors have nothing to do with it.
