I thought the Ravens made a great pick and pisses me off since things just fall in their lap.

honestly, i give Ozzie credit, he has a great scouting team and knows how to draft well
Honestly I think their drafting lately has been crappy

Bears messageboards have to be melting down this morning. May be fun to check some out.

Just checked it out. Thanks.

My favorite: Regarding trading 3 additional picks to swap picks. " At least that's three less picks we'll have to see Pace (GM) F up" hahaha

Well that's hard to argue with. I like their HC but I'm not sure how much time I'd give him to right the ship. After this slew of draft picks you would imagine at least two years before you started seeing moderate success.

I agree with you about Tom. He would not have had the same success if had been drafted by Jeff Fisher or the like.

I wanted to add a few thoughts I know you won't mind.

Most people are future addicts.
That doesn't mean planning for the future but rather just believing in future.
Its a devastating addiction.

When you start dreaming of future you lose your focus on what you have.
Future is grave.

Torn ACL, right? Season ender but not a career ender. So he spends his rookie year on IR and we go with Malcolm Butler playing for a big contract. Works for me.

Achilles...but I thought reports were he is progressing nicely. I'd say every team BUT the Pats can't afford to red shirt him with a high pick. The may even be ready to play off of PUP.

Just want to leave this funny little nugget here.

Yep. He is grossly underpaid and his high-level of play justifies a major raise no question

The reason I hunker down on the "deserves" comment is it takes market conditions, good-faith negotiations and perceived value to determine what he really deserves. I don't necessarily view the RFA as influencing what he "deserves", but rather an impediment to completely understanding what he would receive in a free market scenario.

For example, there has been speculation that BB does not see Malcolm as a Top 5, lock-down CB. I'm not sure I buy that but its out there nonetheless. On the other hand, rumor is that NO views him as a $14m AAV CB which is clearly Top 5 $.
I hear you and understand completely what you're saying. I always have understood the situation. I just think there's looking at it in sports term, which is what you outlined beautifully versus just a more simplistic way. He is severely underpaid, regardless of all of the reasons that have made it this way. Unfortunately for him, though, he has to suck it up and play on... hoping that he doesn't suffer a major injury.

But you and I are mostly in agreement if we don't get hung up on the word "deserve." I hope I'm making sense. I'm preparing for a tough day tomorrow and my mind is a bit all over the place right now.

Cleveland released Gary Barnidge after drafting Njoku last night.

To follow up our discussion re. future eating present

And all Joe Thomas is asking last few years is, please keep some veteran players on the team.

Having too many young guys can be tough to manage. A veteren's presence can help cultivate the right type of culture. JG has been around a winning culture his entire NFL career which should be considered an asset imo.

Well, the speculation seems to have been mostly from us Pats fans, regardless of the consistent reports that the Pats were not trading Jimmy.

It wasn't BB trying to get a team to offer a massive overpay, although if it was offered BB might accept it.

No, it really does look like BB does not want to trade Jimmy.

The Pats will not be losing Jimmy for a compensation pick, or whatever they can get as a distressed asset.

TFB's own father has said he doesn't think it will end well, just based on Tom's competitiveness, but BB has moved on from QBs before, although this is certainly far from an ordinary situation.

Fasten your seat belts. It may be a bumpy ride.

This kid is different. Honestly that Qb thing is purely coincidental. Barkley dropped way down. The USC bust QBs were who? Sanchez and leinart. Darnold is a stud. He could have a down year but I doubt it. It's basically like Andrew luck. Darnold is the best QB to come out since Luck and by this time next year they'll be saying he might be the best Qb Prospect since elway

I actually think his ceiling is higher than Luck's. But people have been wrong about breakout college QB's before. Remember the hype on Hackenberg after his first year? That said, I think Darnold is going to be absolutely DIRTY. The kid was an absolute beast in high school, too.

There wasn't a QB worth drafting.
That is what is so stunning Andy. Not only, by all reports, there wasn't a QB worth drafting in the top 20, for the first time in NFL draft history, THREE teams were so QB starved that they traded UP to get a QB in one of the worst QB drafts in recent memory. Yet JG still remains a Patriot. Incredible....at least to me.

Now I DO realize that not trading JG isn't going to make a huge difference in the team's chances to win again. I know that we will be one of the favorites and rightfully so. AND I admit that most of my frustration comes from not being able to take advantage of a rare chance to pick in the top half of the first round (something most teams' fans get at least every few years). Still I think it will take a few days to get this out of my system.

It would help if BB would grab the FA DE from the Lions and coverage LB from the Eagles as Toys suggested. ;)

And in one case, Chicago, a team may have set themselves back a decade or more.

This

I remember he was supposed to go number 1 after his first year but I don't remember the same hype that luck got. I haven't heard people go crazy yet about darnold either. I think luck had the most out of the 3 after their first year. Watching darnold play is something else

PFT just reported that Fox didn't even know Pace was making the move until just hours before he made the deal

Talk about covering your OWN ass while hanging your partner out to dry. Now Pace will be connected to Trubisky and might be kept while he gets a chance to grow, while Fox will likely be fired for the next QB guru hotshot (Josh McDaniels) available. How cynical of Pace.

East Coast bias is alive and well. Hell, after that bowl game against Penn State, you would have thought he would be even more of a household name by now even in spite of the fact that he plays for USC.

The Bears have been reported to be envious of how well run the Rats' organization is, compared to the Bears.
