Damn...just saw the money. At that money and the pick we gave up, I would rather have kept Marty!

The white knights on this forum will dislike your post. No matter, it's the correct thing to say.
No it's the usual thing to say. Just once when a guy we knew going in was a mercenary skips town when the contract is up and owes us nothing i wish we could be unusual and not tear them down behind their back

Not when said person said it was the best place he's played. Felt like home. Never felt anything like it etc. That opens you up to whatever comes your way.

Had he said nothing or couched everything then nothing can be said.

Wish we had waited but oh well. Would love to see brady get to work early with some of these guys.

Damn wish we had gotten him for that.

Apparently, either Belichick, Bennett, or both, didn't feel that he was a fit moving forward. At 6m dollars a year, they could've kept him. Isn't that right around what Dwayne Allen will cost? I appreciate him as a piece for the 2016 SB run, but I was never a huge fan.

The guy reportedly played with a cracked bone and bone chips in his foot and really couldn't take a break with Gronk out. When Belichick repeatedly referred to how tough this team was, I'm sure Marty playing through injury was on his mind.

I'll give Martysaurus a pass on any talk that may sound hollow to some now. He earned it with me. YMMV.

Regards,
Chris

This is awesome. I love MB wanted him back, BB gave him the legal tamper period to find his market, then BB made his move and there just wasn't space for MB. BB is planning for next season and doesn't have time to wait. If MB signs with GB before the trade we likely have to give up more.

I wish him all the best I really do. I hold no animosity to him or Revis, they got their ring and we got out Lombardi's. That was the point of those deals.

To everyone saying we should have waited on him. Again, this is not how it works with the Patriots. Reportedly they have their offer open until a point in time and then when Bennett didn't commit to it they moved on to the alternative instead of putting themselves in a bind where they end up with empty hands.

As we can see BB didn't value him as much as we were led to believe. When they really want a player and it's a contract stand off, they will let him test the market and bring him back when the market is as they calculated and the player's wanted $$ isn't there. Look how different they handled the D-Mac situation as an example. They were in no rush to trade for Dwayne Allen ... so it wasn't like they had to act fast.

Wish him the best of luck, he was a great Patriot

I was never quite on the same page as it seemed most were -- at least in terms of the whole idea that Bennett was thrilled to be here. By the end of the season, he seemed to be going through the motions around the team. On the field he continued to play hard, so tons of credit to him for that. I know we all appreciate it and I can speak for myself when I say that I hold no ill will whatsoever towards Bennett.

I think between the denial of the December offer, along with immediately vocalizing his giddiness about hitting the free agent market ($$$) in a postgame interview following the Super Bowl -- while on the field and still in uniform -- ultimately caused Belichick to walk away. I'm not sure when that 'walk away' happened, but I imagine that it would've been around the time he saw that interview replayed in his office.

And fwiw, I tend to think this parting was largely mutual. I get the sense that Bennett had moved on quite awhile ago and wasn't expecting, or wanting, for that matter, to be back in New England. No idea why that is, tons of variables involved...

Just my two cents on the whole situation.

I'm seeing a 3 year/18.45 mil contract
That makes no sense
Why? It was all rumors any way that he turned down 7mil from us. I think BB was just a little worried about his antics and what he might just say. I think BB decided a long ago not to resign him. Plus, it was after the Browns game, he sought of fizzled out.

Good. Let THEM endure the self-adulating blabbermouth for a while.

Marty does as a lot of things well but he's kind of a slug in the passing game we know he was injured but he was never seam buster TE like Gronk and he's an average RZ threat Dwayne Allen is better in the RZ as we will see. That said thank you Marty for what you did for us I will cheer for you but not against our Patriots.

You are looking too much on the projected APY between the rumored deal the Pats offered him and too little at its length. The Pats essentially wanted him for one more year and with the Packers he will get three years.

Once you are past your 30s you don't really have a big FA payday ahead of you so longer contracts without much incentives become pretty attractive. The Pats obviously didn't want to bind themselves for too long past his 30s.

I loved Bennett and am sad to see him go. Problem for him is he just turned 30 and the Pats may have not wanted to give him a 3 year deal even if it was only at around 7M per year. He goes to a fun team to watch and I hope he does well.

I am surprised he signed with GB..not the best place to hock his off the field businesses.

Glad Pats didn't resign him He was getting very nauseating.

He went to a contender who was one Game from the SB good move on his part.

Without a defense green bay isnt going anywhere in the playoffs. I think they just lost micah hyde. Impressive offense but theyll have to win every game in a shootout
