What do we do at CB if Logan Ryan leaves?

Depends what the staff thinks of Cyrus going forward. Corner is so deep there will be tons of value at some point.

Take King or Tabor in Round 2 if one of them falls (unlikely)

Otherwise Round 4 best corner available, still will be a lot of good players.

Is this guy going to make more money than talib or chris harris jr? I find it hard to believe. He was very solid for us though. I hope we still look at a corner in free agency. If shields didn't have head issues i would take a chance with him on a 1 year deal.

Ryan is one of those guys who is a good player that is going to get paid like he's a great player. He's a good 2nd corner who will get paid like a #1 and will most likely disappoint in that role. I won't be surprised if he ends up taking the Patrick Chung career route, get overpaid elsewhere, disappoint, get released, then return to NE and return to form in the proper role.

Overall I think this is why the Patriots do so well with veteran pick ups, they recognize where other team's diminish the value of a player by using them improperly then bring them in and tailor their role in NE to using them for their strengths,

Ryan is a guy who performs well in this system, but in another system will just be an average CB as they will not let him play to his strengths and will want him to be something different than he is. If we do not sign him, which I hope we will, he will be overpaid very much like Patrick Chung was.

The Patriots rarely overpay anyone, and when they do they remedy it pretty quickly, Amendola is a great example of this as he has eaten huge chunks of his deal and will gave to eat most of it again this year if he wants to stay.

The Patriots won't go over 5-6 a year for Bennett so he will be gone.

Ryan is going to get #1 money elsewhere so he is gone as well, once again I doubt they will even offer 5 a year for him and he will end up getting 8-10 a year in free agency.

Sheard is gone, they may not even make him an offer.

They will offer Blount 2-2.5 and we will see if he takes it?

I think they want to keep Harmon but like Ryan he may get twice what they offer in free agency and he will most likely be gone.

The good news is that all are replaceable and after they gut Amendola's pay they will be up around 70 million in cap space, so they will have a ton of money to work with even after they franchise Hightower at 15 million. I think you will see them go heavy into the market for players who have been cap casualties elsewhere, and that and the draft will fix the holes created by losing the players above to free agency.

I don't think it's good for DE/ILB/OLB. We need to grab one early. It's good for S/CB/RB/TE and pretty bad for OL.

I agree with you. But they have so much cap room. If you look next year list of FA's is almost ST guys + Solder and Edelman. And if they lock Solder for 3 or 4 years they will increase their cap this year.

They can draft 2 really good guys + Gronk and they will upgrade the TE position even without Bennett.

They can use our #32 and upgrade the OLB/DE.

This are ''easy'' moves.

They already have Butler - Rowe - Cyrus and that's not that bad. They can add another player.

I really hope they trade JG if the offer is a top-15 pick + 2 other picks.

It's outstanding and very deep at CB/S. arguably the deepest at both for a long time. It's good at DE but top heavy.

I don't think anyone is hating on Ryan. What we are talking about is maximizing and managing the financial resources we do have. Ryan is a free agent and there will be at least a few teams willing to pay him top tier money. We already have a safety making 10 million a year and our best corner is due to hit free agency next year and will likely be making 12 mil a year (from us I hope) when he does.

So can you pay Ryan the 10+ million a year some other team will pay him (and I guarantee you that someone will) which would then then give you 3 of your 4 DB's making 10 million + a year, next year? If you've watched how our coach operates, this is simply not how he allocates his resources. No way in hell.

So basically it will come down to this. Who do you want and value more, Butler or Ryan? Only one of them will get paid by us. I feel pretty good arguing that Butler brings more value for the money than signing Ryan would. He clearly the better player.

And I think that Ryan's replacement is already likely on the team. Rowe or Cyrus Jones will take over for him. My concern is actually not replacing Ryan, but how do we replace Harmon? I say this because he's so underappreciated in terms of the flexibility he allows us defensively and I don't think his replacement is already on the team the way I believe Ryan's is.

Ryan is gone like Bennett is gone. This is the business of the NFL.

The question is who replaces any of our free agents? In a recent post, Pats Pulpit
mentioned Gaffney, Foster, G. Gronkowski, Lucien, Housler, Richards, C. Jones,
Roberts, Grissom, and Hamilton as in house replacements for Blount, Bolden,
Devlin, Floyd, Bennett, Harmon, Ryan, Hightower, Shead, and Branch.

To do something like this would be reminiscent of the Bobby Grier era. Bobby
replaced many a good player with a mediocre player and the teams suffered badly.
I am hopeful the Patriots spend close to the cap again and invest in several of
their own free agents.

BB successfully replaced Revis, Browner, and Arrington in one offseason. Replacing Ryan won't be difficult.

Rowe proved himself the second half of the season as a legit outside CB2. He's only 24 and will allow us to pay Butler since he'll be on a rookie contract through 2018.

We'll need a slot CB. Jones/Jones/Coleman is a pretty good competition for that position.

Bb usually drafts in year one with free agency in year two in mind.

Cyrus jones would have to play himself out of the Ryan role.
