Montana: Can't Call Brady Best Ever

That and having all-world receiver Jerry Rice. (And some stickum.) I mean, let's be real: I'm pretty sure my mama could at least win a division championship if she were throwing to Jerry Rice.

You would think that a QB would be generally or perhaps even acutely aware that his balls were artificially caked with a sticky catch friendly substance every freakin game. (Insert sticky balls joke here).

Montan said nothing about "defakegate". Why? He's under some form of contract to the NFL and NFLN. "I saw the clip on NFLN last night!". Gee whiz golly, THAT NFLN?? Oh they wouldn't outright LIE to promote THEIR agenda...nah, no way. It's obvious, Joe must be broke and the NFL is using him. I could care less. His career was back then...so was Bradshaw's and Staubach's and Aikman's. The great Super Joe in Super Bowls? Who holds the TD record for SF in the Super Bowl? Steve Young, that's right. He took what Montana had and improved it exponentially. All this being said, I'm a Pats fan. If Joe wants to try to attack me or my fellow fans, he's a goddamned moron. You keep your 4 Super Bowls, WE'LL take OUR 15 year run you bitter POS.

Brady didn't play under the old rules. He played a couple of years under rules that fell somewhere in the middle of "the old rules" and "the candy ass rules of today".

I agree with you, but I think that Brady could have toughed it out in any era.. the competitive fire that drives him would span across any generation

That's one of the interesting things about Brady is that he's such a good looking pretty boy with his super model wife, designer clothes, etc... but he's tough as nails

I'mma just gonna leave this here.

It's an insecure man that goes around in private telling his wife and family that he is the greatest. My husband has never said it. It should be the other way. The wife and the kids should be the ones telling their husband and father that he is the greatest.

God I love the internet... I don't always agree or get along with Dues, but I find it funny that people are missing his point so hard lol

Everyone has to be so super serious all the time.. I've joked with my wife about stuff like that.. as in, being playful and joking around.. In every man's home he feels like the King, and his home is his Castle..

The fact that people can't understand that is mind boggling... or people get it perfectly, and are just trying to argue for the sake of arguing

We just won the super bowl people, RELAX!!!!

I don't hold it against him for saying what he said. I've always held him in high regard and the GOAT until now. In his heart of hearts Joe has to know that Brady is simply better than he was, if not by sheer records and # of rings(5>4 btw) then by pure heart. From the 6th round to back up and thrust into a starting role. Not once, ever looking back and only getting better. I don't care what era they're from either because today's NFL is a far superior league and product than it was 30 years ago, let alone 60.

I know QB's took bigger hits back in the day, but QB's still get drilled today, I didn't watch a lot of football pre 2000.

When did they implement the rule that you couldn't go at a QB's knee's?

Blows to the head rule?

Those are the 2 main rules that differentiate the beatings QB's take right?

I think Brady started in the era where DB's could get away with a lot more against receivers. And then the Colts cried and an emphasis was put on the rule.

And then Brady broke records.

Oh boy, now Joe has really gone and done it. Now Brady is really going to be pissed. Here comes #6 and #7.

Actually, 7 isn't an even number, here comes #6,7, and 8.

That's more like it.

There are posters on here that are much more knowledgeable than I am. My basic conclusion to that statement is simply based in the progression of nutrition, training, technology and money that goes into today's product. NFL players, or any professional sport's athlete are specimens compared to the past. I always try to think of it in relative terms and imagine how much better great players would've been today and personally believe they would've done just as well, but it's all subjective so I can only judge based on records and well you already know those...

The NFL N is basically saying the same thing I said.. kinda saying Joe is not taking the high road.. and is showing sour grapes. He deflected the question about Brady and comparing him to people back in 50/60's.. which is complete hog wash.

The NFL N basically said its probably hard for Joe to admit after being considered the GOAT for so long and now has been surpassed.. its probably hard on him.

They also mention Brady has done more with less talent and has more rings. Heath Evans also said Joe running the west coast offense is much easier than what Brady and Peyton do/did Pre snap.. QB's have to process much more today and I guess he is saying that the QB position is harder to play now than it was back when even Joe was playing.

All 3 of them said Joe is the 2nd best QB of all time.

The stat differential between the 2 of them is worlds apart. I know Joe wasn't known as a huge stats guy but damn.

I live in california. I am surrounded by people who hate the pats. I became a pats fan when they drafted drew bledsoe. Best decision i ever made. I used to really care about brady's legacy and montana. Now i can honestly say who gives a **** about what anyone says. Its over. No rational human being can argue that brady isnt better than montana. Its not even worth getting worked up about. Brady ran him over and montana is sitting on the side of the road looking for his broken glasses.

By different eras I wonder if he means the one where receivers used stickum and the one where they dont?

You know how sometimes a person is making such a huge @ss out of themselves that it's pointless to even call them out on it?

Also Im very suspicious of the conclusion that football is easier today that it was in previous generations.

I'm guessing the exact opposite.

My personal generalization/thoughts are that football players were (a lot?) tougher in previous generations but since then the science of sports/physical training has vastly elevated the physical prowess of the modern athlete.

I think the NFL is more complex than it was even back in the 80's 90's.

I was also reading stats about how NFL athletes have gotten bigger and faster over the decades. I am to lazy to find the article but DL and OL are bigger and faster by a lot on average. The same goes for every position.

In a conversation like this, how can we Bostonians not look like total homers?

Brady and the Patriots also instill the opposite. Plenty of people (especially Manning lovers) just looking for reasons/twisting logic NOT to give Brady his due.
