Offseason Free Agents thread....

Using vereen is a bad example because BB doesnt value overpaying for running backs. And vereen got 5million and we already had white on the backburner...And hes mostly been right. Look at the passing backs we have had

Faulk, woodhead, vereen and now lewis/white. Each time people freaked out when we let one leave and the next guy has stepped up fine

Or...they simply didn't want him at that specific market price. For example, we know that they still wanted Revis. We know they still wanted Vereen. We know they still wanted Hicks last year. We know they still wanted Welker.

They certainly had the funds available for those players. They just didn't want to match market value.

Yes .... so they don't want him

If you want somebody you keep them

I'm not meaning to nitpick your wording, man. We just have a difference of opinions on this one.

There have been plenty of free agents whom they still "wanted" yet didn't wish to pay market price for. Hell, there have been guys like Deion Branch who they even brought back. Just because they didn't want to step outside of the value system and overpay doesn't mean they didn't want them. You know this.

Just saw that D'Qwell Jackson was let go by the Colts.

I don't know exactly what your definition of the word "key" would be, but I think we've seen contributing players leave just about every year. At least in most years.

The qualifier you used was "in their prime," so that is more specific. Guys like Hicks and Vereen come to mind as recent examples. We certainly went down to the wire with Devin McCourty, who reportedly turned down more money from the Giants and at least one other team to stay here. Would Hightower do the same? We will find out.
Those guys were pieces not key players. Not Hightower.

On "Inside The NFL" last night, Phil Simms kept nudging and hinting Brandon Marshall to sign with New England.

Marshall looked nervous and didn't reply both times.

Just found that interesting.

I'd love to have Brandon Marshall in this offense, but I don't see how that would happen because his media career is important to him and being with the Jets allows him to be on shows like Inside the NFL

He's a big, fast, physical wide receiver that is really difficult to match up with... Would love to have him on a 1-2 year rental, but don't see that happening unless he's willing to put his other side stuff on the back burner

If ryan leaves i would like them to look at shields even though he has concussion issues. Idk the other corners in the market.

The same idiot who just said JJ Watt is the "greatest football player of all-time" and better than Brady?

Nah I'll pass.

The guy's a loser. I never seen a guy so eager it seems to stay with the jests. He will be making 7.5 mil coming off a down year.

I respect Marshall for taking control of his mental illness, having a good career and doing well as an analyst/football personality. Tons of talent

....but my hot take is I don't think he is a fit for this organization. Seems too focused on self-perception and not the team.

Agree.

There are many ways to say "I am not Pats material", Marshall just found a creative way to say it.

I am hoping he stays with the jests lol. Clowns belong with clowns.

If it's not going to work out with Hightower I would probably tag him and see if a good trade could be worked out. I suspect we could get a #2 pick for a tagged Hightower from a team with tons of cap space.
No team is gonna want to pay hightower about 15 million unless their crazy. Let alone pay him 15 million AND give up a draft pick, especially a second round draft pick? That will never happen.

Hightower's a good player. What you mean? Alot of needy teams that could use a superbowl linebacker who makes big plays. He's a proven player over a draft pick.
