Josh McDaniels will NOT accept 49ers job (Edit: Kyle Shanahan expected to become HC in San Fran)

Welp, also perhaps this puts to bed any conspiracy of him not being focused for playoffs.

It isn't a conspiracy, it is self evident that the time he spent thinking about taking a HC position, canvassing possible coaching staff, etc., is time NOT spent being focused on the playoffs.

Can't underestimate the value of a patient owner, willing to give his coach and/or GM the right kind of autonamy to run an organization.

If you believe Parcells's account in his book, BBs problem was with uncertain ownership and who was actually empowered to make the football decisions.
What's Parcells going to say? He thinks I am a douchebag so he wouldn't work for me?

It would have looked like 1981-1989. Some good seasons with a fun ride. Some disastrous seasons. Mostly mediocrity. Just like every other NFL franchise.
Unless it looked like the Redskins because Kraft couldn't find a coach he would give time to.
What if BB had lost the snow bowl game then gone 9-7 and missed the playoffs in 2002? Would Kraft have fired him?

Terrific. Thanks Josh.
More continuity.

I just hope it isn't Irsay as that guy is a jerk.

Also because of the damage his cheating organization contributed to in Defamegate.

He doesn't deserve any freebies from the Pats.

Well thankfully we dont have to worry about what Kraft would have done if BB had another losing season. Josh clearly made the best decision for himself and family. What SanFran does from this point is pretty irrelevant but will be interesting to see what happens.

Yup. Sure

That's plausible though. They're interviewing both coaches and GMs, and wanted to settle in coach first befor GM. This particular GM candidate may have been a leading candidate with a Shanahan regime but not McDaniels.

Again, listen to the Quick Slants podcast episode #84. Curran actually compares Kraft in the 90s and York in the episode. In short he is saying that York is not yet mature enough to realize that he needs to hire a football guy and give him full control over everything whereas Kraft realized this after the debacle that was Grier/Kraft/Carroll when Bob used to interfere a ****ton.

Bob kraft at his worst was never that much of a moron. Plus he learned quickly. Was a great owner.
Bobbie's problem is dotage and wanting to be accepted In The Club.

We will never know if Bob could have succeeded without Belichick, but he should get credit for the hire.
What he did before hiring BB seems shaky. Including the players backstair access during the Carroll years.

I think he still would, but you are right he is looking for the right job. DET, NO, CINN, IND, NYJ or CHI all strike me as better jobs than what was out there this year.
the nyj? really? with that owner?I could see no cinn and even det but the jets? no way is that a good job. its a dumpster fire.

Putting his family ahead of career aspirations driven by personal ego shows he has his head and his heart both in the right place, and in alignment. Great news!

There is a sucky team every year which means there is a vacancy for Josh every year. He isn't really missing out on anything.

If SF ownership is unacceptable just about every team you just named is as bad or worse.
I guess Chicago is in a comfort zone of quiet failure, but the rest are awful ownership.
SF just fired two coaches in two years and ran Jim Harbaugh out of town, what exactly is the good part of their ownership.

Agreed. Shakey at the least. But as you said, he did hire BB, and paid a high #1 draft pick for him. Plus he later allowed his "just like a son" QB Drew to be traded at Bill's initiative after just signing a huge million contract for Bledsoe.

Even if we believe uncritically everything over the top said about Kraft's early years (Tebucky Jones stopwatch) he's nowhere as whacked as SF's owner.

What are you using as your reasons York is 'whacked'?
