Philly sports writers: Belichick was right. The Eagles were wrong. The Eric Rowe trade made no sense

It helped the Pats but it is not like the Pats won that trade by a huge margin. BB traded Rowe for what looks like it will be a 3rd round pick. That is a pretty valuable pick and while it is better for the Pats to have Rowe now it is not like the Eagles didn't get something pretty good back.

They will get the 90-96 overall pick for Rowe. I just hope the Pats sign Rowe long term. I don't think he is amazing but i like him in the role of the big CB to cover bigger guys.

And to Philly writers, TV n the public at large, it's the EAGLES n all the other sports teams a distant 2nd

Rowe went half a round before we took Richards. I'd like to think we packaged a 3rd to trade up for him. Malcolm Brown + Eric Rowe + Trey Flowers + Shaq Mason was a very solid draft for us.

I think it's a steal to get a solid #2 on a rookie contract for only a 3rd round pick (assuming he plays half the snaps next year; right now it's still a 4th round pick I believe). He was one of my major binkies, and I'm glad to have him on board. No idea what Eagles were thinking.

Money quote from the article criticizing the moron Roseman...

"Rowe was aided by a seasoned secondary that included safety Patrick Chung, who won a Super Bowl ring as a Patriots starter two seasons ago. That name should sound familiar to Eagles fans.
Roseman cut Chung in 2014."

Epic!!!!

Not to derail the thread, but I'd still like to know what they saw in Richards to reach for him in the 2nd outside of his football acumen. The guy is not athletic enough to play safety though he has seemed capable on ST. Out of the 3 WTF 2nd round safety picks since 2012, only Harmon has really panned out.

Long title.. who could it be.....

If I could do One Thing about the Patriots, I'd rescind BB's draft power for the 2nd round

Tavon Wilson has started all season for the Lions. He's helped solidify their secondary, and they made the playoffs for the first time in ages. So even though he wasn't a favorite around here, he's not been terrible. Harmon is clearly the best of the bunch, though, and I expect him to leave in FA to be a starting FS.

Richards fits my theory that every once in a while, the Patriots just want to give a nice contract to an upstanding young man who otherwise probably wouldn't get drafted. Maybe they think of it as investing in the future, or doing their civic duty. That's all I've got to explain it.

You are right: he has to play most of the snaps next year to bump up compensation from 4 to 3. He didn't make it this year.
Rowe, who has been hampered a bit by injuries, played 43.3 percent of the Patriots’ defensive snaps in the regular season. If he plays more than 50 percent of the snaps next season, the Eagles will get a third-round pick in 2018.

Up until recently and I mean very recently we have Sucked in the 3rd Round with that said Proven Player > Draft pick any day of the week.

Wilson has been better with the Lions but is still just north of a JAG. He was a pretty bad scheme fit here.
