Would you trade Gronk for a 1st round pick, this offseason?

Dont make me break out the highlight reel on this.

No way. Put the team on his back last season in Denver and almost single handedly won that game by himself. There are a handful of players that can dominate and he's one of them.

Isn't his cap number next year something silly like 5 mill?

Nooooope no trade.

Uh yes 100% but no other team would give that up for him

Everybody except for Brady is tradeable and releaseable (sic) if it was any other way we wouldn't be the dynasty Patriots. Part of our success is constantly changing the team in subtle ways to remain ahead of our opponents. Right now this team is more able to work around not having Gronk than we were in past playoffs where let's face it if we had him we're talking ring 7 right now.

Yes. He's the best TE ever, the best target Brady has ever had... but unfortunately he's injury prone and probably one more back injury away from being forced to retire.

No because for a start 50% of the first rounders are busts so there's a 50% chance you're trading him for nothing.

The chances you're getting a consistent pro bowler back in return for the one you're giving up is less than 10%.

50% of the Patriots 1st rounder have NOT been busts.

Most (almost all) of our 1st rounders have been decent if not great.

2011 didn't finish healthy.. he tried though

2012 he played 11 games (I dont remember how he finished)

2013 he played 7 games (I dont think he finished strong)

2014 played 15 games and stayed healthy through the playoffs and won the Super Bowl

2015 missed 1 game and almost with basically just Gronk and Brady beat the Broncos in the AFCC
2016 only 8 games.. and really only 6 games.

But we have him for short money next year.. and because of his Injuries I think a lot of teams would be hesitant to use a 1st round pick on him. I want to keep him until his current contract is up and then maybe let him walk... depending on who is QB. Are we rebuilding? Looking for a new QB? I say we keep him with Brady until 2019.

Yes, if someone offered a 1st or 2nd in either 2017 or 2018, they could have gronkowski.

No one on this team except Brady in untouchable.

The bidding starts at 2 1sts, 2 mid rounders and we get the other team's TE plus we need Marty locked up.

Gronk is the greatest TE in history. A single first rounder is an insult.

If the other team has a concern about his durability then they shouldn't do the deal.

It doesn't work that way. You can't just take his durability out of the equation. If not for that he wouldn't be on the block to begin with. The same thing with, let's say- Demarcus Cousins over in the NBA. His maturity and character issues. That factors into how much the Kings can get for him. If he had the temperament of Tim Duncan there is no way in hell he would be available in a trade. Everything matters.

Having Gronk is like being the first country with a nuclear weapon.

Why would we want to trade Gronk-technology to the enemy?

Because players who can't stay on the field are useless, no matter how talented. Some guys' bodies are built to tolerate punishment and some guys' bodies aren't. Gronk's clearly is not

1. Win SB this year.
2. Trade JAG for both Cleveland's firsts.
3. Sign Bennet and Floyd
4. We have 3 firsts AND Gronk coming back (he is like a once in a decade first overall talent) and have him join this incredible array of offensive talent.

Then make next year the 19-0 repeat, three out of four SB.

Who is JAG? Garapollo? No way in hell Browns are giving up two firsts for him. First pick in the draft? Even they aren't that dumb.
Bennet has already turned down a lot of money. How much do want to pay a TE who isn't in the top three at his position? Floyd is a scumbag. Even if you are willing to overlook that he was not good in Arizona this year. The jury is still out on him. And if the Pats re-sign him Roger will up his suspension from 1 or 2 games to 8. Because who's going to stop him? Gronk will be out or hobbled by the time the playoffs roll around.

If Bill believes that Jimmy can be an above average QB for this team for the next 10-15 years I think Brady is the one to go. If not, I think he trades him and (knowing that QB will be a weakness once Brady goes) starts focusing on building a shutdown defense.

Brady is not untouchable either depending on how the team feels about Jimmy or what they could get in return for him. The man is almost 40.

I would trade Gronk in a heartbeat for the right package. But the kind of teams on which Gronk could make a meaningful impact probably aren't picking high enough in the draft to make it worthwhile for us. What the hell is a team like Cleveland or Chicago going to do with an elite TE?

I would never consider it if Gronk could stay on the field. But he can't.

At this point it is not improbable that you won't even get a single first round pick for Gronk. He is at his lowest value in years given that he just had his third (!!) back surgery and is one bad landing/hit away from retirement.

The entire thread is just stupid at this point and just shows how people don't understand how trade value works. You want a worthwhile return on Gronk ? Then you should have traded him after the SB win and not when he played in only a handful games and ended up on IR. But of course if he has another great season in 2017 then we are not allowed to have a discussion like that because "why trade him when he is playing well".

Would you guys want Watt, Bell and Reed? All injury prone players...

Rob Gronkowski

There is less than zero chance that Gronk's $7 million cap hit gets traded. His value to the team is simply too high for that money.

After next season, when his cap hit reaches $11 million, all bets will be off.

Would you guys want Watt, Bell and Reed? All injury prone players...

Seriously? You can't base an argument on presupposition. I think Bell is overrated and plays a position that is not terribly important these days. Watt, while not injury prone, does have back problem and will be almost 29 by the time next years Super Bowl is played. I think he will be a good player, maybe even a great one in spots, but I think his days of dominance are over. And Reed who? Are you talking about Jordan Reed from the Redskins? Why on Earth would we want him? He's not even as good as Bennett. Are you just listing guys you think are injury prone? Come on, you can do better than that.

Obviously we want a talented player who can stay on the field. That would be the entire point of trading one of the best TEs to ever play the game.

By the way, has everybody forgotten about Ben Coates? How dominant he was and how clearly better than big mouth Sharpe he was? All this talk about Gronk being the greatest TE ever and Coates doesn't even come up? If Gronk is better it's not by a ton. Coates was a beast.
