The talk about Martellus Bennett

Perillo talked about it.

In preseason game 4 he seemed more interested in protecting himself than playing hard. Just my eyes.

This is a rather baffling post. In a meaningless preseason game, where a highly skilled and successful veteran, opts to protect himself rather than struggle for an extra yard, and you find this a negative?

Lets wait until the regular season, and i wouldn't judge him until he has Brady throwing to him cause remember big difference between getting thrown to by Brady and Jimmy, so don't expect some of the new receivers/etc (Hogan, Mitchell, Bennett, Derby, to fully shine until Bradys back and then not to long after once the chemistry starts taking off.

This team won't hit its stride until Halloween. We all need to patient.

Maybe it was preseason game 4 and he is in contract year, so yeah he should play agreessive and tried to get hurt.

Dude you pegged the needle...

YUP. In a normal 4th pre-season game, Bennett wd not be playing at all. I was glad to see him self-protect.

The last 2 preseason games he has not looked good to me. Whatever folks may think of Perillo's football acumen, I am sure he can tell when someone is dogging it. How you play matters in practice, in the preseason and yes most importantly in games. I believe BB wants his players to always execute at their best and this is why his play is concerning.

I very much want and hope Bennett does well. He has been and hope he will continue to be a top 10 TE. Willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but doubt has emerged.

like revis, who took it easy in training camp in 2014, bennett is in a contract year.

I am not sure what to make of Bennett yet, but I am really glad to have derby as a third stringer. He reminds me an awful lot of Luke willson, a guy that just finds holes and sits down in coverages.

If bennett doesn t work out, I feel like derby will do just fine as his replacement. I just hope that's next year, not tomorrow.

I think we got the player we expected and he will be just fine..... Geeeez chill a little, season hasn't even started yet and you wanna take up pitchforks and torches against the guy.......

He also wanted Bishopn Sankey, who sucks. Perillo isn't very bright.
You can go ahead and hate Perillo, that's fine. Call him a stupid, useless POS mediot and condemn me for sharing what he said. I just don't think he'd make that rather pointed observation about Bennett for no reason and occasionally find interesting info in what he says. I personally am rooting for Bennett and certainly do hope he has a long, successful tenure as a Patriot. We'll see what happens.

It was preseason week 4, I wouldn't put too much stock in that.

Ya it was preseason, slate him all you want but this was him two years ago, making a play on a Bears team that was going nowhere, in a game that was a blowout

Oh man, I had forgotten about that. I was forgiving of his so-so preseason play since he's a veteran and we know what he's good for, but I forgot how good that can actually be. Now I'm excited.

Is this like randy moss being cut before the start of the season after he was traded here.

Let's hope Halloween is Oct 23rd...a huge game @Pittsburgh. To me, this is equivalent to the @Den (Harper's muff) game in that it may decide home field advantage.
