Some people - too eagerly awaiting this years surprise from BB - are suggesting Bennett is not going to work in NE citing his poor presentations in the last preseason games and possible unfit charachter with Brady. They suggest he might be a surprise cut/trade.

First let me say I really dont want this to happen. Its true that he didn't look good on the field lately, mostly he visibly lacked motivation, even with TB in command the other night. This are the things that could irritate BB and especially TB but its only a preseason and they brought Bennett for the SB run.
I believe he will be what we hope for with Gronk when it starts for real. Most of all I am looking forward to Bennett-Gronk snaps when TB returns.

But just for the sake of discussion what would letting Bennett go mean for the team:

-- they would keep Harbor together with Derby and Gronk and that is still a very good group. Derby really knows how to get opened and with Gronk in the mix he would be a serious threat. But if Gronk gets injured then this is not a solid let alone dominant position anymore and thats where having Bennett (in his normal form) could be crucial. Keeping Harbor (which they might anyway) would help the run.

-- they could probably get a decent trade out of Bennett and save over $5M. But what trade could possibly make this team (losing Bennett) better? I guess only starting OT would fit into this category ... what I don't know is if there is a team out there willing to part from their starting OT for a top 10 TE one week before the start of the season.

So I hope for no surprise at this front in the next hours and looking forward enjoying real MB when it matters.

p.s.
I didn't like his change of numbers at the beginning of TC since 88 brought us the biggest disapointment last year. Hope its not a jinx.

The buzz out of camp is that he's lazy and a self-promoter, that football is not his No. 1 priority. I think BB tried to light a fire under him giving him ample snaps in the exhibition games. It would not surprise me to see him let go, but that also would be a huge disappointment. We just might see a trio of Gronk, Derby and Harbor.

If they don't think he can justify the $5m he's gone.

I think he will stick

From all accounts he was excited to be here and is a contract year for him, I can't see him not making the 53.

But I'm getting used to the Idea that the 2 TE offense will not be the unstopable force we thought they would be. Oh the prisioner, what a waste.

I think he makes the 53, but he better turn things around quick or he will be gone faster than Hainsworth.
IIRC it's not guaranteed so they can do whatever they want

Turn what around? Because him and Brady weren't on the same page for 5 minutes in preseason games?

Perillo talked about it.

In preseason game 4 he seemed more interested in protecting himself than playing hard. Just my eyes.

Over-hyped Felgerisms in this thread...

Bennett was great in the first game.

Branch got suspended because of bad behavior of some sort. Is he getting cut, too?

You mean like smart veterans who know they're on a team?

Gronk seemed invisible.

Just seems important to BB that you play the game hard all the time.

I'm giving Bennett the benefit of it being preseason, but it will not fly in the regular season.

So, they weren't going to give him snaps with Gronk out?

Odd. I never saw any of the beat guys report this during camp. The only time I saw this was when the trade happened and the normal mediots in Boston said it.
Paul Perillo of Patriots Football Weekly on CSN went into some detail about Bennett's questionable work ethic and commitment to football.

Sure, but he got a lot including into the fourth game. Plus, along with Derby and Harbor there were other TEs in camp.

Perillo? Paul Perillo? Come on. You may have just as well cited a poster on here. Because that's what Perillo is nothing more than a Pats fan that lucked into a job covering the Pats for the Pats.

I mean this is a guy that works for the Pats yet has never broken one story regarding the team
