Tom Brady removed the nfl* decal from his helmet (update: Brady says he was unaware of it)

2016 NFL Rulebook | NFL Football Operations

This year's official rulebook...I'm going to go through it...perhaps some of you may want to do so also. Let's find out EXACTLY what this moron Goodell can do.

Um, Joker, two recent court cases have determined that Goodell can do whatever he wants to do, regardless of the rule book.

Guys, I know we want to paint football deflation as a mere "equipment violation" like a sticker. But we all know that if it happened (which 99% of us believe did NOT, but work with me), it's not like a sticker at all. It would have been in an attempt to manipulate the footballs to gain a competitive advantage outside the rules.

It would be like a running back greasing himself up with vaseline, so that defenders couldn't grab hold of him. It's a very different thing than having eye black that says "John 3:16", or your name written on your shoes, or the NFL sticker removed from your helmet.

Applying a sticky substance on a football creates the same desired benefit as reducing its air pressure. Both are equipment violations.

Clearly that did not work for Goody.

I'm not buying the idea that Brady hurt himself using scissors to take the sticker off the helmet. Look at the paint job. It's pristine. Have you ever tried to take a sticker or tape off a painted surface and slipped? It leaves a nice LONG noticeable scratch. They'd have to repaint his helmet and re-apply the stickers. Brady could have told the Equipment guys to leave the sticker off after they re-painted it since he didn't play that week. But I'm not buying it..

So this monitored during the game, as all equipment issues are?

What if Brady, during a Monday night game, goes to the ref in the first quarter and tells them that he just noticed that his helmet doesn't have a sticker, and that the team is looking for another helmet for him with a sticker on it, and asks if it is ok for him to play without a sticker until they find one?

The refs either have to:

1. take Tom Brady out of a nationally televised game because his helmet doesn't have a sticker on it, which would be catastrophic for the League in many ways

2. tell him to keep playing until the team finds him a replacement helmet (which won't happen in that game). Then if the League gives him a hard time about it, he just points out that the refs told him to keep playing.

Don't forget their bailiff...

Note the colors of his uniform... green and white... coincidence? I think not.

If Mr Green Jeans was a Jets fan I will be devastated.

Good for Brady. FU NFL. I don't give a damn about their stinking decals.

Let them suspend him more. He's protesting, as he should be, and if it means he never plays again so be it. He's standing up for what he thinks is right, and that's more important than a football game. Tom has been quiet and stewing for 18 months now, he's earned the right to do whatever he wants.

Could Brady have the sticker on there, but cover it up? It would officially work unless they have a rule stating that the sticker must be visible...it would be so Belichickian .

No it's not. It gives Goodell the impetus to levy additional punishments, claiming he's a "repeat offender". A defense might be that it's preseason and an exhibition game so it's not an official game. The courts have pretty much given Goodell unfettered power and now you want to tweak him and give him the opportunity to f*ck the team again? We don't have ownership who backs the players and it's like asking for more punishment... Maybe I espouse the Teddy Roosevelt philosophy of " speak softly and carry a big stick" by letting his actions on the field speak volumes and not this type of action. While it might feel god on a visceral level, it is asking for more unneeded problems.
A better solution would be to wear a T shirt with whatever expression you want (" Integrity- that who speak of it don't have it) under his game jersey.. When he takes off his uniform in the locker room and is interviewed, it is visible to the press and likely to be photographed.... You're not breaking the rules but getting your point across in protest..
I thought TB was punished for not cooperating??? Not handing over his cell phone?

I thought TB was punished for not cooperating??? Not handing over his cell phone?
  1. Having a general awareness that air was being let out of the balls
  2. Destruction of phone...not cooperating
  3. Masterminding a scheme and providing inducement to skirt the rules to gain an unfair competitive advatnage
You really need to specify the timeframe you are requesting
  1. original suspension
  2. after appeal
  3. in front of Judge Berman
Not sure if they changed it for Brady's appeal, don't think they could have at that point

If I were to put money on it I think the league sends him a "warning" letter but beyond that they let this sleeping dog lie.

Could be wrong but I see the league knowing they got their article 46 validation and got their pound of flesh and now I think they move on. Based on what I'm seeing I don't think there's any real appetite to kick them while they are down.

If they do then I believe Goodell will not be long for his job. JMO.

So by breaking this rule, is he proving that equipment rule violations should follow the rule book and go by the penalty assigned?
