I think my favorite part of this is that we now look at NFL officials like they're a racist, sexist grandfather. Sure, he says the wrong thing way too often, but that's just Gramps!

As Clint Eastwood said in Unforgiven, "Deserve's got nothing to do with it"...

It's a heck of a thing, blowing a call. Take away all they've got and all they're ever gonna have.

[Voice over using Dean Blandino's voice] Heh heh heh, there they go again, getting it wrong, but whatcha gonna do?

Maybe we should take it up with the NFL's VP of Officiating? :)

As the person in charge of the referees, shouldn't he focus on getting the refs to do what they are supposed to do instead of justifying what they actually did do, which was get the call wrong?

Nah, this is the NFL, it's all about the optics...

Goody and Blandy can now slap each other on the back for their part in keeping Aaron Rodgers in the playoff hunt. Granted Detroit is pretty culpable too, but the NFL is supposed to be providing a "level playing field" and they failed yet again.

The Refs are supposed make calls based on what they saw, not what they thought happened.

Is there anyone in this message board who wasn't 1000% convinced Detroit would lose after getting the penalty? Just wondering if I'm the only one who turned to my wife and said "watch this" just before the Hail Mary. The Lions are just one of those teams.

Seriously? "Quit complaining about a blown ball that swung a game?"
Why are you putting quotes around a phrase that nobody said?

I said quit complaining about a call that would be made every time, and if Brady were involved you would absolutely say it was a no-brainer call to make.

I couldn't believe the number of times in the 2nd half of that game the Lions let Rodgers roll out of the pocket.. that's his entire game!

Pats had the correct strategy last year, just contain him and force him to make throws from the pocket.. he would have never got enough juice on that ball to make it into the endzone of they didn't let him scramble out of the pocket and get a running start to throw it

Oh well, Green Bay wins and will probably overtake the Vikings now in the division.

In other words, "get it wrong almost every time"...

As NFL VP of Officiating, you'd hope he'd try to do something about that, no?

i understand the bad call and all that but why all the rodgers hate?

Too many commercials, and just resentment for him being #1 on every single QB ranking list. I also can't stand the fact that he is making millions off of the "champion belt" gesture claiming it as "his move" when that has been around before he was even born in professional wrestling, boxing, etc but for some reason people believe it's his unique thing

Also the fact that he has only won 1 SB and thinks he's the champ still

I dunno, I just don't like him and those are my reasons. . I don't hate him, I just don't like him and actively root for the Lions and Vikings in that division

Nope. I'd say what I always say when a bad call goes our way: "Ouch, crappy call, but I'll take it." I wouldn't pretend it's the right call simply because refs are going to throw that flag regardless.

Again, that call will be made every time. The whining is silly.
Well, I think that casually accepting bad calls because those calls are going to be made anyway is silly, so nyahnyah.

Well, I must admit you make a good point there. ;)

Detroit was hosed, but their end zone defense was a disaster. Like there are about 4 lions defenders behind the Packers without a play on the ball.

I think we can blame the ref who threw the flag as he had no view of it. They shouldn't assume a penalty, especially when an official with a better view didn't throw a flag.

And no, if my view was of Rodgers' back, I wouldn't have thrown the flag.

But there were 2 flags.

Facemask, yeah

Facemask, yeah
The thing I definitely don't see is Blandino's "grab with finger". I see a thumb contact the face mask, but not grab it. How can you grab anything with just one finger, unless the finger got wedged into the face mask, which isn't happening in the video? I see Rodger's head turn because at first Rodgers himself turns it, then his whole shoulder is grabbed and the head turns with the shoulder. I definitely don't see any "grab" of his face mask.
