You could make a 2009 Super Bowl champion out of what's left in free agency in 2014 (if you signed David Garrard as your starting QB). Shows you how fast careers go downhill.

Just goes to show how much what happens in the draft could change things having these guys in the wings to possibly plug holes.

No safety in the draft? How about throwing the Vet Min at Gregory (a guy who knows your defense even tho he'd hopefully be just depth). Or get Ed Reed in to mentor the younger players and maybe have 2 games in him.

Want another vet DT? Williams, Picket, Franklin and Carricker have all been productive.

Also on offense there are a few notable names at T, G , Te and RB that could be brought in if the draft doesn't go our way.

Thanks for the list. It's interesting to look at who could still contribute and make this team better.

Some housecleaning items from Schefter:

Browns on Friday exercised the fifth-year option on defensive lineman Phil Taylor’s rookie contract.

Redskins announced they have exercised their fifth-year option on the contract of linebacker Ryan Kerrigan.

Aldon Smith contract option was just exercised - now under contract to 49ers through 2015.

Seattle Seahawks have declined to exercise guard James Carpenter's fifth-year contract option for the 2015 season, the team announced.

Thanks jmt for the updated list. Out of those names, I like Felix Jones at RB, Brian Leonard at RB/FB, either McClain or Leach at FB, Collie, Austin or Bennett at WR, Dustin Keller at TE, Svitek at OT, Travelle Wharton at OG, Andre Gurode at OC, the Fresh Prince at DE, Stephen Nicholas & James Mister Anderson at LB, Reed Doughty at SS and Terrell Thomas at CB.

I highly doubt that all of the remaining 25 open roster spots will be filled by draft picks & UDFAs, so here's hoping that some of these names become Pats soon.

If Thomas could possibly stay healthy, he would be a steal at CB for the vet minimum. But his problem is that he's never healthy. The team has enough injury prone players as it is.

I hear you, but he did play all 16 games last season; so he has that going for him, which is nice.

One down from my list, 11 to go...

Appearing on CBS Sports' 920 The Morning After show Monday, Jason La Canfora stated "people in the league" believe the Rams and Vikings have discussed a Sam Bradford trade.

that trade would only work for the rams

Blows my mind that they picked up Aldon Smiths 5th year, the dude is heading down a road that you would think leads to him not being in the nfl much longer.

I would imagine that his talent alone is difficult to just let go, and the hope is that he'll be able to turn things around. As murky as things are looking for him at the moment, I'm expecting that bomb incident to go away. There would be a high number of teams who'd have definitely been interested immediately, had they chosen to cut him that day. As a matter of fact, I'd expect almost every single one of the 31 other teams to have been interested.

The Browns have released DB Brandon Hughes, DL Brian Sanford, QB Alex Tanney, RB Fozzy Whitaker and QB Vince Young.

Now that the cuts begin that may deserve it's own thread...

Vince Young released by the Browns
It's Hoyer vs Johnny Football!
Go Brian!
