Maybe kick the tires on any qb that is a duel threat like Guition. I have always thought that with our oline, If Brady could run as equally as he can pass we would never lose.
AJ is a bit short, as 6-5/6-6 is the ideal height... I see AJ drafted in the 2nd-3rd round.
3rd round, I'd take him over Zach.
I may completely wrong here but are there any good QBs ever that we're 6'6" and above? The only candidates I can think of are Ryan Mallet and Dan McGwire.
I just googled it and Apparently Joe Flacco is 6'6". He may be the only good one.
Mettenberger & Garoppolo are the guys I like but i'm not willing to give up the pick that would be needed to get either while we have Mallett. If we trade Mallet for a 2nd and could get Mettenberger with our 3rd then I'm up for that.
Pipe dream on a 2nd for Mallett.
Things we know:
- Brady under contract til 2017
- Draftee has only a 4-year max contract 2014,15,16,17
- Brady has no serious health issues presently
- You dont NEED a top 5 QB to make it to/ or/ win a SB (recent history: grossman, kapernick /or/ eli, flacco, anyone)
.
My choice: Zach Mettenberger. Typical pocket passer, cannot run..
3rd or 4th round
I think you might be able to draft Georgia's Aaron Murray in the 6th, maybe even the 7th round. He tore his ACL. But remember the only reason that Mettenburger was at LSU, is that Murray beat him out for the starting job at Georgia (that and maybe a few "liberties with female party guests" (insert wink to Dean Warner here)).
Murray is a good QB. McCarron would also be good, but unless they move Mallett, QB is not something they should be looking at in the top 4 rounds (where McCarron will most likely go).
I would also absolutely draft Logan Thomas 6'6" 250 (Va Tech QB) and immeadiatley issue him a number in the 80's and send him straight to the TE meeting room. If someone can convince him his NFL future is at TE, they are going to get a steal!
People should watch some Keith Wenning (Ball St.). Really good touch passer and best long ball accuracy in the draft. He's one of the one's we've worked out. Tom Savage (Pitt), of whom we haven't heard anything about as a Patriot workout is another underrated QB prospect. He's got a strong arm but is a bit gunslinger-ish right now. Think Tony Romo . . .
I don't agree with that. As bad as Eli and Flacco can be at times they were pretty much awesome during the playoffs when they won it all. Your team has to be stacked to be able to win it all without a great QB.
Look at the Bengals. They have all kinds of talent but they can't ever win a playoff game because Andy Dalton is a mental midget.
I can't defend Grossman. That was just a fluke.
