Allen update:

Sources: Jared Allen making second visit to SB champion Seahawks and could decide whether to join them in next few days.

Allen update:

I would be quite shocked if we were ever really in the running for Jared Allen.

It'd be one thing for some of these guys to be receiving 4-5-6m dollar deals per year, but when they're still pulling in 10 million dollars, one would have to assume that Belichick probably didn't give it much thought. Just my opinion.

Now, if SEA pulls Allen in for 5-6m dollar per year, then I will be somewhat bitter, but I'm glad that we didn't go after someone like Ware for 10m dollars per year. I'm assuming that a guy like Allen will still be demanding between 8-9 million a year.

Very disappointed, but not surprised, that Bill hasn't even attempted to contact Jared Allen.

With just having given an extension to Ninkovich, and already having Chandler Jones on the other side, I'm wondering if Belichick isn't going to be looking for someone a lot cheaper for part-time, rotational work.

It'd have been something great to witness, however!

Jared Allen to #Seahawks would be scary. Seriously, how will they afford him though? I thought he wouldn't take less than 10 per.

Maybe they're hoping to bring him in and wine/dine him under the "we're building a dynasty here" theory, thus hoping he'll come in for 7--7.5 million a year or something in that kind of range.

So if Allen goes to the Seahawks could that mean Cliff Avril gets cut? They save $7m in cap space if they cut him.

He's counts for $9m against their cap, if they cut him they save $7m.

Possibly, but I'm not sure that it would matter for us anyway.

One would assume that if Belichick were going to pay someone bigger money like that, he may as well have just gone after a proven hard worker like Jared Allen instead.

According to one of the guys on Sirius NFL radio today, the word on the street is that Jared Allen's agent has been shopping for a $12 million/year deal. It's not a big surprise that Belichick passed on that bidding...

They may have contacted allen..but please..don't pay him 10 mill...or even close to it...no thanks!

The team has like 8 million in cap space, no way do they bring allen in here for 10 million+. It sounds like to me that allen is all about the money as opposed to winning a ring.

Have the Patriots looked at any FA TE's Hoo-man doesn't count?

Why doesn't he count? He has been a good contributor here.

Many fans here think that the solution to the top 2 DEs playing a lot of snaps is to go sign an allpro for 10 mill rather than a strong backup.
I am on record as saying I would prefer Ninkovich to be a backup DE/OLB/sub package guy, and have a stud pass rusher ahead of him, but truly that is a luxury and we haven't finished all of the needs yet to be able to worry about a luxury.
Also, with the best corner tandem, and likely best secondary in the NFL, Ninkovichs strengths as a coverage sack guy and an opportunist on getting QBs who are flushed out become more valuable.

According to the NFLPA they have $15.2m available.

I like Allen, just not at the money. Thoughts on guys like Shaun Phillips? I know Carrington doesn't have any numbers to support him, but has he ever been able to pressure the QB?
