Last I heard Allen was looking for $12 million per... I think interest on the part of the Patriots (if it exists) may come after all this FA money dries up some and if (only if) he and his agent's asking price has no choice but to come down some.

On field, Allen would add a much needed edge presence to, at the very least, create a more formidable rotation with Jones, Ninkovich, Buchanon, Armstead, Hightower, Collins etc.

I would offer Allen something in the vicinity of 3 years, 21 mill and 10 upfront.
SB 10,000,000
Salaries 1,000,000
3,000,000
7,000,000

Cap hits are 4.3, 6.3, 10.3 dead money if cut after 2 years only 3.3mill

He may retire instead, but I think thats a bs negotiating ploy.

I would ONLY do this if the plan is to move Ninkovich to a hybrid supersub DE/OLB role, and Allen plays the majority of all snaps.

Why would you want to move dominant Ninkovich away from starting DE?

Agree. Smith has lost steps over the last two seasons... noticeably. Whether it has to do with declining speed, nagging injuries, or both is up for debate. I digress...

No team in the AFC scares me now that we have (on paper) a formidable secondary.

Gone are the days when the Patriots secondary makes the likes of Joe Flacco, Eli Manning, Mark Sanchez etc. look like Hall of Famers when they are in actuality anything but...

Hell, we just spent years making no-name QBs look All-Pro.
That's why I'm loving these 2 FAs. Plus I think Dennard & Ryan are serviceable backs as well. Too bad we're locked into Arrington. Maybe we could "trade" him and throw in a 6th round pick to make it happen.

Yeah I don't buy the retirement rumor either. Thought his agent shot that down a few days ago, too.

I'd be fine with giving him this as I think he can start opposite Jones and with the secondary we have now, put up double digit sacks in 2014 as long as he (and the DE rotation) stays healthy.

Let me guess...
Because Allen is a better pass rusher?
And we're down a LB with Spikes to Buff.

Stop! I don't even want to think about this anymore!

Henceforth, all this talk about a Patriots defense making no-name QBs look All-Pro will be repressed to the deepest recesses of my mind. AFAIAC, it was all just one big nightmare... lol.

I can understand were Jared Allen is coming from Peppers and Ware got 10 million each and they had a total of 13 sacks between them Allen had 11.5 on his own so he thinks his worth at lest 10 million if not more

Yeah but we kind of have a log jam at the inside LB position if we do that. Hightower, Ninkovich, Collins and Beauharnais.

Allen would actually give us great versatility by freeing up Ninkovich –

- SOLB – Hightower and Ninkovich rotate
- MLB – Mayo and Hightower rotate
- WOLB – Collins and Mayo rotate
- LDE – Allen and Ninkovich rotate
- RDE – Jones and Allen rotate

Also we spend so much time in the a sub package with 3 defensive ends that it would be –

- LDE – Ninkovich
- LDT – Kelly/Armstead
- RDT – Jones
- RDE – Allen
- SLB – Mayo
- WLB – Collins/Hightower

Mix Michael Buchanan into the situation and you have good depth up front, that way Jones and Ninkovich are not playing 95% of the snaps and burnt out by week 16.

My post aside I do not envision Allen being signed, Belichick is not likely to add another $8M defender to this team this year we have to many offensive holes to fill. I would agree with that thinking as well.

Tate to the Browns

Pack and Donkeys are crazy paying that money. Especially with the guaranteed money to Ware. If I were Denver I would have paid the Ware money to DRC or tried to get Browner and see if you can reel back Phillips for a reasonable contract again. They got 10 sacks out of him for a million bucks last season. They're be lucky to get the same out of Ware for 10 this year.

Tate to the Browns

If the Browns get a good QB, they will have a very nice team. Unfortunately for their fans that ownership will likely screw it up very quickly.

QB-Bortles
RB -Tate
FB-Ogbonnaya
WR-Gordon
WR-Little
TE -Cameron
LT-Thomas
LG-?
OC-Mack
RG-?
RT-?
LDE-Rubin
NT-Taylor
RDE-Bryant
LOLB-Sheard/Mingo
SILB-Dansby
WILB-?
ROLB-Kruger
LCB-Hall
RCB-?
FS-Gipson
SS-Whitner

They have the picks to fill those holes too.

Idiot franchise had a poll on twitter asking fans if they should sign Tate or draft a rookie RB.

There were people who wanted a rookie RB with this draft class? I could see so many other positions, but not RB. This isn't the year where you congratulate your front office for drafting a RB. This is a year where you forgive them for doing it before about round 4.

Tate to the Browns

Reportedly 2 years / $7M. About what Toby Gerhart got in terms of AAV.

The market price for LeGarrette Blount should be pretty low based on Tate's deal.

I agree. I think they could have had Decker and Phillips if they wanted to

Ben Tate - Cleveland Browns - 2014 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

Browns agreed to terms with RB Ben Tate, formerly of the Texans, on a two-year contract.

The deal is worth "up to" $7 million. Tate was the best running back on the market, but the Browns were the only team to make a public run. Extremely injury prone through the first four years of his career, Tate's contract is expected to be incentive-based. Coming from the Texans' zone-blocking scheme, Tate is a fit for fellow ZBS OC Kyle Shanahan, but will have to prove he can stay on the field before anything else. Although Tate has impressive burst, his game lacks wiggle. He's a downhill runner who will need his blocking to click to have the breakout year many have long expected. Despite the question marks, Tate and his career 4.7 YPC have definite RB2 potential.

What a joke:

Emmanuel Sanders - Pittsburgh Steelers - 2014 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

The Steelers haven't ruled out the possibility of re-signing free agent Emmanuel Sanders.

Sanders remains unlikely to return, but it's possible medical concerns could lead him back to Pittsburgh at the right price. ESPN.com's Scott Brown believes Sanders may have to settle for a short-term deal with little guaranteed money after playing through a foot injury last season. Sanders is reportedly seeking a contract in the range of Golden Tate's five-year, $31 million deal.
