The CAN spend like drunken sailors. This cap situation has been a long time coming. We will need to understand the new normal for the market. This type of market will not go away anytime soon. This is especially true when teams know that they will not be overpaying for draft choices.

Unfortunately, there is going to be a lot of stupid money thrown around in free agency this year. Many GMs can't help themselves. They get $20-30 million in cap space and hear that the cap will go up by $20-30 million over the next two year and they think they can spend like drunken sailors.

There are difference between adjusting your spending to the rising cap and throwing ridiculous amounts of money with top of the market deals for average players. That comes with a boom in the salary cap.

I guarantee you there will be a lot of players who get ridiculous amounts of money this offseason that you wouldn't even want at a bargain rate. It happened in the last CBA where the cap exploded and went up $6-8 million a year. It will happen again with the new cap.

Some GMs/owners look at an exploding cap as an excuse to make expensive gambles on players who don't deserve big contracts because if they screw up it is easy to get out from their contract without destroying the cap. Daniel Snyder did it for years.

1. New CBA has switched it from where draft picks used to be paid top dollar in the first rounds to now veterans are receiving those big pay days. The draft has become more important than since the new CBA because teams can acquire superstar talent or potential on minimal contracts (key players are underpaid see: Chandler Jones, Nate Solder, Dennard, McCourty, Hightower).

Pats should have plenty of money to retool and extend key players in the future; nearly 20 million will be coming off the books with Wilfork and the prisoner next season. Connolly's deal is overpaying, but should have a solution by then.

The one deal I have the biggest issue with is LOGAN MANKINS. Yes, he is good, but he is simply not worth the 10+ million cap hits over the next 3 seasons. That is left tackle money, not left guard money. Need to find a solution to that contract because something tells me a 35 year old Mankins will not be worth the 11 million cap hit for a GUARD.

2. Back to OT, does Woodley potentially fit as a 4-3 end back up? Could come in to give jones or nink a breather.

Even better. It efficiently matches up the "pay me" players with the loser franchises that think making a splash in free agency is a smart strategy and have to over pay to attract "pay me" players because no player who wants to play for a winner would ever sign with their godforsaken franchises.

He's also on the other side of 30. But, at this point, the pass rush needs all the help it can get in a rotation. So yeah, I would take Clemons but I prefer others. Allen is a guy that has made his money and may be looking for a Super Bowl title on a contender. He may take less in order to get an opportunity to play in the big game.

I 100% didn't realize he was 32, I thought he was about 4 years younger. Was his play hampered by the ACL injury in the 2012 playoffs or is his decline in production due to Seattle signing 19 other high profile pass rushers last offseason?

What if the Pats sign Chris Clemons (DE from Seattle) and Chris Clemons (SS from Miami) this offseason? I wonder if they would take a two for one package deal. Sign one Chris Clemons at full market value and get the second Chris Clemons for free.

Am i the only one who thinks Mankins isn't worth 22M over the next 2 years and 29 over the next 3? Maybe he will improve with an upgrade next to him at Wendell, but he was responsible for more pressure than an 10+ million guard should allow IMO

I 100% didn't realize he was 32, I thought he was about 4 years younger. Was his play hampered by the ACL injury in the 2012 playoffs or is his decline in production due to Seattle signing 19 other high profile pass rushers last offseason?

He missed all of camp and the first two games of the season recovering from the knee surgery. When he returned, he had 3.5 of his 4.5 sacks in his first five games so I am not sure what his issue was.

He would be a nice player to rotate with Ninkovich at the LDE Leo position.
