Patriots CUTS

Well here it is at last. Written proof that even BB admits he has no idea what he's doing.

Jeff Howe @jeffphowe
Belichick: "There's probably gonna be roster moves over the next few days. I don't even know what they are."

The Patsfans critics were right after all!

LOL!

It makes a lot of sense to treat cut-down day as a tryout period, where you maintain enough roster flexibility to bring in a rotating cast of interesting prospects. (ker-WYNN! ker-WYNN!)

There are 2 very different situations. First there is the 51 situation that we have been operating under for months.

After the final 53, we are liable for Player 52, Player 53, all the IR players, player on NFI, the dead money, and the Players on the Practice Squad. Also, Miguel's numbers are current. Most other folks (especially official lists) take a week to incorporate all the changes.

As time goes on, there are also injury settlements. I would note that Miguel usually includes the entire cost of the Practice Squad for the year, rather than making weekly changes.

So, I expect the numbers to be closer in a couple of weeks.

Players who were Waived/Injured started counting against the cap as soon as their status went to Injured Reserve. Not sure why people think otherwise.

The players on the NFI list started counting after the cuts to 75, if the Patriots declared they were paying them.

This whole time we assumed that he was just being coy with the media so as to not reveal any information.

Before the final cutdown, IR players counted toward the cap only if they were one of the top 51. If they were not, only their bonuses counted. After the final cutdown, all players under contract are subject to the cap, not just the top 51. By the way, the same is true of any other list, like players on the PUP and NFI lists.

@Nick_Underhill: James Develin has been released, according to a source

Is this weekend the record for most releases without a Ventrone transaction?

Develin out and the OL'er in. Is that it so far today, or am I forgetting moves in the whirlwind?

Are you talking about Dill to the PS or did we sign yet another OL to the 53?

Not surprising, I would expect him to be signed to the practice squad tomorrow upon clearing waivers. Having him and Hooman on the same roster was redundant in my opinion.

As noted above, Develin isn't PS-eligible.

Dill, but my post was horribly worded for what I wanted to ask. I was going to delete it, but you'd already replied.

My apologies for the confusion.

Devlin is now gone.

Perhaps a TE will get added.
