Why did this team sign Tebow?

First of all, that only takes into account his passing yardage and TDs. It ignores the impact of his running ability.

Secondly, you just stated that the guy trying to secure the THIRD STRING QB job on the Pats ranked 24th - 28th against NFL starters.


Why wouldn't you want a guy as a 3rd string QB who is still developing yet already ranks higher than a number of freaking starting QBs in the NFL ?

That one is just mind boggling.

I wrote the same but then deleted it thinking I'd got the wrong end of the stick. Our 3rd string QB is, according to the stats quoted, better than a number of NFL starters. And this is supposed to be a bad signing. LMFAO.

I tried to avoid them as best as I could, but as far as throwing mechanics are concerned, they're closer to Brady than they are to Tebow.

I don't know about Gabbert. There's lots of problems down in Jax. He could very well be a large part of it, then again, maybe not.

It seems like as a general rule you're unwilling to draw conclusions about young quarterbacks. Fair enough, but I don't share your reluctance. It's no coincidence that the offense became much better once Chad Henne took over.

We could go with Alex Smith who didn't look too good for well over 2 years

that's the reason that most young QBs, especially those taken higher in the draft (right move or not) get more than 16 games to see how they develop.

They were playing on terrible teams in a more difficult era for quarterbacks and they still managed to complete a significantly higher percentage of their passes as rookies than Tebow was able to in his second year. They were both completing 57+% of their passes by their second year, which is a solid 11% better than Tebow managed. And that's back when completion percentages were much lower, leaguewide:

1993 (Bledsoe's rookie season): 57.9%
1999 (McNabb's rookie season): 57.1%
2011 (Tebow's sophomore season): 60.1%

With all of the league-wide emphasis on opening up the passing game, we've seen completion percentages trend up by a few percent league-wide between the mid/late '90s and the late '00s/early '10s. If 2011 Tebow had played alongside 2000 McNabb or 1994 Bledsoe, he'd probably be completing 44% of his passes while they were both in the 57-58% range. Not at all comparable.
