First of all, that only takes into account his passing yardage and TDs. It ignores the impact of his running ability.

Secondly, you just stated that the guy trying to secure the THIRD STRING QB job on the Pats ranked 24th - 28th against NFL starters.

Why wouldn't you want a guy as a 3rd string QB who is still developing yet already ranks higher than a number of freaking starting QBs in the NFL ?

That one is just mind boggling.

I wrote the same but then deleted it thinking I'd got the wrong end of the stick. Our 3rd string QB is, according to the stats quoted, better than a number of NFL starters. And this is supposed to be a bad signing. LMFAO.

Gotta run to an appt. Later ya'll. Will reply when I get back

really?...I'm thinking "confirmation bore-us" is more apt...

I was responding to a topic about Elway, Tebow and the Broncos, hence the relevance.

Another performance like the other night and I wouldn't be surprised if that feeling changes quite a bit....

We can all make statements that have absolutely no supporting evidence.

is demon planning on staying after Tebow gets cut?

Sure, it's a possibility. You weren't claiming that. I do believe that you claimed that it was the reason.

I don't think I used those words, but I think it's reasonable to believe it was.

I'm guessing that you didn't watch Ponder and Gabbert that much in 2011

I tried to avoid them as best as I could, but as far as throwing mechanics are concerned, they're closer to Brady than they are to Tebow.

I don't know about Gabbert. There's lots of problems down in Jax. He could very well be a large part of it, then again, maybe not.

It seems like as a general rule you're unwilling to draw conclusions about young quarterbacks. Fair enough, but I don't share your reluctance. It's no coincidence that the offense became much better once Chad Henne took over.

We could go with Alex Smith who didn't look too good for well over 2 years

Care to go back to Drew Bledsoe at 49.9% his first year with a passer rating of 65 ? Or Donovan McNabb and his 49.1% and 61.1 passer rating ?

that's the reason that most young QBs, especially those taken higher in the draft (right move or not) get more than 16 games to see how they develop.

They were playing on terrible teams in a more difficult era for quarterbacks and they still managed to complete a significantly higher percentage of their passes as rookies than Tebow was able to in his second year. They were both completing 57+% of their passes by their second year, which is a solid 11% better than Tebow managed. And that's back when completion percentages were much lower, leaguewide:

1993 (Bledsoe's rookie season): 57.9%
1999 (McNabb's rookie season): 57.1%
2011 (Tebow's sophomore season): 60.1%

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/NFL/passing.htm

With all of the league-wide emphasis on opening up the passing game, we've seen completion percentages trend up by a few percent league-wide between the mid/late '90s and the late '00s/early '10s. If 2011 Tebow had played alongside 2000 McNabb or 1994 Bledsoe, he'd probably be completing 44% of his passes while they were both in the 57-58% range. Not at all comparable.

Do I need evidence to make a statement that starts with "I would not be surprised if...."?

Nah.

Do I need evidence to make a statement that starts with "I would not be surprised if...."?

Nah.

So it was pretty pointless statement then.

Tim only started 16 games or one year. I am sure there are plenty but let's try...

John Elway 1983 - 47.5%

Terry Bradshaw 1970 - 38.1% , 1971 - 54.4% , 1972 - 47.7%, 1973 - 49.4%, 1974 - 45.3%

Eli Manning 2004 - 48.2%

Should I find more or is that cool for now?

Did any of these players go on to get traded after their first 16 starts (over a 2 year period) for a mid and late round draft pick, then play one season with that team in which they failed to supplant one of the worst starters in the NFL, failed to effectively run a wildcat offense, were passed over for a 7th round draft pick, were reduced to playing punt protector, then eventually released, while unsigned received next to no interest from any team until the coach who originally wasted a 1st round pick on them threw them a bone and offered them a non-guaranteed minimum contract to come be a 3rd string camp arm during training camp, and then finally when they had their big opportunity against the scrubs of a 4-12 team in preseason game number 1 went out and completed 33% of their passes?

Could you post a list of these players please?!

you forgot to add "and was signed by one of the greatest football minds in the NFL".

you forgot to add "and were signed by one of the greatest football minds in the NFL".

....the same football mind who thought it was a good idea to play word games with a league memo on the subject of video taping....

Nobody is right all the time.

Belichick also traded for Duane Starks. Being signed by the Patriots doesn't automatically make someone good.
