NFLN "expert" consensus -- the Patriots will (their favorite phrase) "take a step back" this season while Houston and Denver are darlings for the conference title and Miami will seriously challenge for the division. So say Darren Sharper, Deion "Screaming Clown" Sanders and one or two others I've heard lately.

To me, this is more wishful thinking than anything based in reality. Screw those azzholes.

And Lou (Felger) Merloni today on WEEI. His exact take citing the same teams.

Nothing like billboard material for Tom, bill and the pats. They always predict the demise, but they always come out on top of the AFC. I tend to not listen to these "experts". Just let the play on the field prove them wrong.

While you were sleeping a few key players signed with other teams, some are injured, and one (so far) is in jail. It's not an unreasonable assumption that the team will take a step backwards. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but this is nothing to lose your mind over.

i see why everyone is high on denver...but why does everyone think MIA will challenge for division? I think they will struggle to get 8. Mainly becasue of Tannehill and i don't think their D will be all that great. Their RBs are unproven and Mike Wallace is so streaky. Can go games without any good plays then hit 2 big ones in 1 game

Sorry, but that's not news. There never has been, never is and never will be anything said on the NFLN worth losing your mind over.

and they will laugh it off when we win 13 games and are sitting on a bye. Its nothing to get upset over though. Games aren't played in the NFLN studios.

^ + the schedule (especially on the road) is vicious

With that said unless a catastrophe happens (like what happened in 08) "step backwards" =/= season falling off the cliff.

Who cares? Last year at this time, people thought the 49ers would take a step back. Houston was the favorite to win the Super Bowl at this time last year. People thought San Diego was a contender at this time last year. Preseason predictions are like butts. Everyone has one and they usually stink.

I can see why the national media would think the Pats would take a step back. I don't know if I would agree with them, but I can see why.

Fins prediction

They will have a good D(top 10?) and an offense with a bunch of nice stats but they will still suck and end up with a losing record....

Philbin looked clueless toward the end of that Jets game last year, he's not the answer, 2-3 more years of sucking IMO, lol

Does this almost make you feel better? Isn't it more likely that success is in the cards if these paper hats can't see it?

Darren Sharper is an unreasonable Pats hater. I found out why....we were the last team to tell him his career was over. Camp casualty.

most of these analysts opinions are personal.Sharper constantly rails about spygate , yet he came to workout for a spt with NE. Maybe miffed he wasnt called. Sander's buddy ed reed is in texans so its the texans and welker goes to denver so must be denver's yr. While all these maybe true no one speaks of baltimore too either . They might be better than last yr but again no ray ray and ed reed so not a fashionable team.

Sharper can barely string together two consecutive words without tripping over his own tongue. Another loud ignorant goon, just what that station needs. Haven't watched that station for months and I tune in and have to listen to this idiot? I should have known better, won't be tuning in again anytime soon.

The only time I've heard Sharper rail about spy gate is in a bit when they were comparing bountygate with spygate. Sharper won a ring with the 09 Saints so obviously we know what side he'd be on in this debate.

Shannon Sharpe always chirps about spygate - although he admitted on twitter he just does it to tweak Pats fans....

Speaking of spygate it is amazing to me that people still actually believe the lie that Patriots were "taping practices". Incredible.

Damn, you work for NFLN too?

I'm not sure how you could expect anything else from the media.
These so called experts give "analysis" that mentions 3 players as if they are the entire team.
We lost Welker, Hernandez and Woodhead. Those are 3 good skill position players so that must mean a step backward.
These guys rarely get it right, so why care what they say?

Calling Prime Time a screaming clown and tha rest of 'em a bunch o' azzholes? I LIKE it. I like it anytime Tunescribe gets a little edge to himself. Any little bit is welcome to offset tha "think before you act & exhibit composure" wagging finger of the Dalai avatar.

They get paid for being popular, not for being right.

I think Baltimore's defense could definitely be better this season, but the offense won't do as well, without proven targets in the middle of the field (Dennis Pitta and Anquan Boldin) to complement Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones on the outside.
