That's a pretty clear reference to sexual preference. Not vague at all.

I would have said, "Are you propositioning me?"

I would have said, "No, and I don't like boys either."

I do a lot of interviewing.

I've always been told by HR that we are not allowed to ask if a potential employee is married. There is a risk of discrimination in the work world - someone who is married can be perceived to be potentially less available or less devoted. This can also be a source of discrimination toward women - obviously somewhat less of an issue here - when the hiring company can consider whether she is a risk to take maternity leave and increase insurance costs. So you are not allowed to ask that.

Yes, asking if "you like girls" is probably strictly illegal under workplace equal rights legislation. Not just NFL rules, and potential sanctions.

Anyone who asks that in an interview is an idiot. These teams should know this. You could potentially see other entities than the NFL raise eyebrows here.

So if I willingly put single, hetero, with no children in my résumé will I have a better chance of getting a job?

Probably not, actually. Employers prefer to hire married people, as these individuals tend to be more worried about security than maximizing earning potential, and are also less able to uproot if an opportunity arises that would require them to move. They have more 'keeping them where they are', so to speak.

Also, even if you voluntarily disclosed that information, just knowing it might make potential employers gun-shy about hiring you, as it could theoretically be used as evidence of discrimination by someone who wasn't hired. That's extremely unlikely, but it's still a risk, however small.

He can say that all that he wants, but I'll believe it the day that he holds out and forfeits a paycheck rather than play alongside a gay teammate. (that will never happen).

Several players on the Ravens have already indicated that their locker room would welcome a gay player, and I'm willing to bet that the Patriots would too, considering that it's a disciplined locker room full of players who care pretty much exclusively about winning. If a couple of dysfunctional, crap organizations value catering to their dumbest players over putting the best team that they can on the field, then that's their problem. Better organizations will reap the benefits.

Also, there's known precedent for gay players playing at very high levels of sports. John Amaechi in the NBA and Will Sheridan at Villanova immediately come to mind. In both cases, it turned out that their teammates didn't care, and were actually just concerned with whether or not the guys in question could do their jobs.
