* Ye Olde 2013 Mock Draft Thread!! *

Uh....OK.

Wouldn't the Browns have to be willing to part with #6 for that to happen?

*By the way, Brother Knot: What's the Scorched Earth bit? I actually used the term in a Private Message to Brother Mayo, yesterday, and was then startled to see you using it as an HeadLine when I hit this Forum...

Except I couldn't find any Scorched Earth element to it: Looks like you're keeping all the major Players.

Is it just a Thing you do? Serious question.

You take me too seriously. That's a good thing I guess.

Do you think I'm hacking your private massages or something? Keeping all the major players doesn't make it any less "scorched earth." It's not like I think they would win more games by going for Greg Jennings over Wes Welker. Even in the wildest mock draft I still have to stay under the salary cap.

Cool story, but how exactly was Mike Lombardi involved? Was he actually the guide who stopped you from shooting the antelope so that the lion could have a clear shot at the cheetah? And wouldn't the lion get like a big time suspension for that kind of unprotected blow to the head?

Hmm. No, Lombardi was the greedy stomach of the cheetah. So greedy that he didn't even know there was a pride of lion just over the hill.

This should interest you:

Tackle's rising stock could place him out of Rams' reach : Stltoday

There are already some rumblings that Fisher could have more upside at LT than Luke Joeckel.

Well that opens up one part of everyone's dream draft. Now we just need Lombardi to complete the other part.

I take you seriously?? Where in the name of God did you get that from??

I just thought that "story" of yours was very, very strange.

And how does my remarking on a coincidence amount ~ in your bizarre view of the world ~ to my accusing you of hacking my Account?? You are flat out tripping, my friend.

Don't project your Paranoia on me, if you please. :snob:

*And if you really believe that "Keeping all the major players doesn't make it any less "scorched earth."" then you need to research "Scorched Earth", my friend.

Why would Lombardi trade for a quarterback who looked just as bad in preseason as Brian Hoyer?

Because he thought that he was the best QB in that draft after Cam Newton.

Do you have emoticons disabled? If so I had a wink face there to display sarcasm. You also missed the part where I called it a dream draft.

As for the reasons, they have been discussed at length. Where have you been the last 2 weeks? There are strong arguments for both sides, but no conclusions.

Which leaves the secondary the big question mark this off-season. Who will be back? If Talib is resigned can they count on him the whole season? His history says no. Only have to look to the AFCC game to show what could happen if he is to go down. Right now would be the perfect time to try and reload on the secondary and get some depth, while still having the core intact if they were to resign Talib. Someone like McFadden, Poyer or Amerson would be an upgrade over Arrington even with it being their first season. Look at Dennard, dude came in and when given the chance went and outplayed Arrington.
At worst, the New England Patriots need to draft a cornerback and safety in the first three rounds.

2013 New England Patriots Safeties:

S1 - Devin McCourty
S2 - 2013 NFL Draft (at worst third round selection)
S3 - Tavon Wilson (dime back/special teams)
S4 - 2013 NFL Draft (seventh round selection or UDFA)
S5 - Nate Ebner (special teams)
S6 - Malcolm Williams (practice squad)

Chung and Gregory both suck.

It was strange, you're right. It was strange because you took a post comparing African wildlife to Ryan Mallett seriously. Wilfork#75 and Mayoclinic knew it was a joke. Just like the all the dream drafts on the page before, it was a joke, not serious.

And how does my remarking on a coincidence amount ~ in your bizarre view of the world ~ to my accusing you of hacking my Account?? You are flat out tripping, my friend.

Don't project your Paranoia on me, if you please. :snob:

Well that's just it, it was a coincidence. So why question it? Why be "startled"?

I thought you were questioning Mayo's private message ethics.

*And if you really believe that "Keeping all the major players doesn't make it any less "scorched earth."" then you need to research "Scorched Earth", my friend.

On the contrary, friend. Here is the definition:

Definition of SCORCHED-EARTH

1: relating to or being a military policy involving deliberate and usually widespread destruction of property and resources (as housing and factories) so that an invading enemy cannot use them

2: directed toward victory or supremacy at all costs : ruthless <scorched–earth rhetoric>

Scorched-earth - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

What one has to take from that is that it's "supremacy at all costs" which is exactly what my mock was. Every draft pick was used and free agent players were shoe horned under the cap. What else could have been done? Scorched earth has nothing to do with roster turnover.

It was strange, you're right. It was strange because you took a post comparing African wildlife to Ryan Mallett seriously.

1 ~ You didn't compare African Wildlife to Ryan Mallett.

2 ~ And I didn't take it seriously.

***

1 ~ You rambled on about something having nothing to do with nothing for half the page.

2 ~ And I pointed and laughed at you.

Spin that as you please.

I thought you were questioning Mayo's private message ethics.

That's just flat out psychotic, my friend.

A few hours ago, you thought I was accusing you of hacking my Account??

Now...you think I was questioning Mayo's "Private Message Ethics"???

Which is it??

***

I bemusedly noted the coincidence of our using the same term on the same day.

My intention was to share my bemusement...with you, you lunatic.

And as an addendum, I expressed interest in your rationale for using the term.

That's all, Hoge, Old Kid.

That's right: I was trying to share a mild chuckle with you.

***

Your response?

A psychotic rampage, more or less.

You have well and truly lost your Schytte, my friend.

And you need to reread "Scorched Earth."

You managed to entirely miss the meaning...which is in itself an accomplishment, I suppose.

:idea2: Mayo's post in the other thread makes so much more sense now.

I heard that the Bills dont have Nassib as their top QB at the senior bowl so that must mean they like Tyler Wilson. Maybe trade our first for their 2nd and 3rd so they can get their franchise QB or at least who they think could be. There will be a lot of teams looking for QB's in the 2nd and the Bills might want to get in front of all of them to get Wilson or Nassib

From what I've been reading from people with "sources" on Twitter, Wilson's going top 10. Apparently the Chiefs really like him.

didnt know that thanks for the info i saw 2 mocks with him 1st overall but if he lasts past that first part im sure someone would try to trade up to get him and im sure BB would be all over that

Mallett did not show anything in preseason to warrant such a lofty draft selection.

I point out to you that you must use what Bill Belichick does, not what he does say, (or rather does NOT say).

With Brady he carried 4 QBs all his rookie season. But that was a 5-11 team so he had the luxury.

Recall that the entire Board was criticising Cassell and saying the other backups were much better and he should be cut. But Belichick had already privately determined that Cassell was his backup, PROVIDED, that he could maintain his Poise under stress, and adversity.

Something he could not judge from lack of college film. So he rigged the game when Cassell was playing that preseason. He removed his experienced WRs, and gave him only the most low rated O-linemen and receivers. Bloggers said Cassell was terrible; but Belichick saw that Cassell remained poised and in control, despite the terrible situations. People were astounded when he cut the others, and kept Matt Cassell, ...unless you understood what his actions showed he was doing. After Brady got hurt in the first game, Cassell went 11-5.

This past season, Ryan Mallett didn't play much. Bill Belichick cut Brian Hoyer and carried only two QBs, promoting Ryan Mallett to backup, in only his first actual Training Camp.

You have to look at his actions.

Baloney !!!!!!!!!

Just because a couple of them have proved not to be Starters, does not mean they are anywhere near as bad, as some deeper reserves. Good depth consists of having starters, or near starters, on the bench.

I think his idea has merit if you take in the big picture. He is also basing his opinion on health issues. Dowling has shown an inability to last a season. Our first impression of Talib fair or not is nice player with injury concerns,

Gregory doesn't suck as mentioned. He can definitely contribute and has. But do you really want him as your starter?

You saw what happened last week when Talib went out and Arrington and Cole couldn't cover Boldin.

They all contribute in some way to the team. Arrington is a good slot guy and Cole does ok in his packages but I never want to see either of them at cb1 or 2 again.

I do agree with your near starter and bench players though. Definitely a need on the 53.

As it currently stands, Dennard and Dowling are the only two cornerbacks under contract. Dowling has only participated in 8 games out of possible 32 regular season games. Arrington is serviceable nickel cornerback but is completely unreliable as a boundary cornerback. Cole provides value as a special teamer and not much else.

Gregory doesn't suck as mentioned.
You are either part of the problem or part of the solution. McCourty is now the starting free safety on the New England Patriots. Furthermore, Gregory has the third highest cap hit for any defensive player currently on the New England Patriots roster heading into the 2013 NFL Season.

New England Patriots Salary Cap 2013

He can definitely contribute and has.
The New England Patriots were the 29th ranked pass defense during the 2012 NFL Season. I'm not sure the word contribute is the right verb.

2012 New England Patriots Statistics & Players - Pro-Football-Reference.com

The New England Patriots need to identify safeties in the 5'-10" (minimum height), 210 lb (minimum weight) class that are equally adept in run support as well as pass coverage.

As for depth, the New England Patriots need to add two safeties with the aforementioned height-weight criteria.
