Give me your top 5 QBs

I went down to 6, as I believe there are 2 categories.

Elite:
1. Aaron Rodgers
2. Tom Brady
3. Peyton Manning
Very Good:
4. Drew Brees
5. Eli Manning
6. Rapistburger

After those 6, everyone falls in to above average, average and below average.

This looks about right, but I would strongly consider moving Eli below Brees and BB. How can you be elite yet consistently have a passer rating around 80-85 in today's NFL? Eli's game involves a lot of risk. When it pays off, it can win a championship, but most of the time it's a just rolling the dice on jump balls. I don't care if he's won two, long-term, he does not play well enough to be one of the greats. Most of his comebacks are simply because he isn't good enough to blow teams away... when you are constantly scoring between 20-24 points, you should expect to have tons of clutch opportunities.

Matt Ryan deserves consideration as a very good quarterback.

Eli, Rapistburger and Ryan are interchangeable IMO. Honestly, the reason I put Eli where I did, was because we have seen first hand what hes capable of. I hate him, but hes damn scary.

Peyton manning is better than brees.

No he is not. He is over the course of his career, and certainly in his prime he was a better QB. He is not this year though, despite what the statistics say.

Manning's arm is just not what it used to be, and he makes heaps of bad throws that for one reason or the other haven't cost his team. Still, It's just a matter of time before they do.

Brees meanwhile has seen his team drop a ton of balls, and NO has hurt themselves with stupid penalties that have killed drives.

But if you actually watch the QB play carefully, there is absolutely no question about who has played the craft at a higher level.

Okay, I think it's time to revisit this Eli thing.

Signed up for this form after noticing a poster in the Bills thread say that the reason Brady's stats are bad (wasn't aware that they are, but lets just go with it for a moment) is because, unlike Rodgers, Brees, and Manning, the Patriots get rushing TDs around the goal line, while those other QBs pass the ball (presumably to stat-pad?)

So I checked the numbers of those 4 QBs as well as Roethlisberger, Eli, and Rivers, going back to 2007, looking at what percentage of those QBs TD passes were of the "short" variety (either within 5 or 10 yards). These are ordered as per the presumption that a lower percentage of TDs being short TDs is "better."

Percentage of TDs thrown since 2007 < or = 5 yards:
1. Ben Roethlisberger (23.26%)
2. Philip Rivers (23.68%)
3. Eli Manning (25.17%)
4. Drew Brees (28.93%)
5. Tom Brady (28.99%)
6. Aaron Rodgers (29.3%)
7. Peyton Manning (31.25%)

Percentage of TDs thrown since 2007 < or = 10 yards:
1. Philip Rivers (36.84%)
2. Ben Roethlisberger (41.86%)
3. Drew Brees (45.69%)
4. Eli Manning (46.15%)
5. Tom Brady (49.11%)
6. Aaron Rodgers (50.32%)
7. Peyton Manning (54.17%)

So yeah, make of that what you will. If alleged stat-padding creates a presumption that a QB is overrated, then get used to Rapistberger and Private Choker being the best QBs in the NFL.

*stats obtained via parsing PFR game logs, 100% accuracy not guaranteed.

Are you sure you're watching the QB play? As much as I hate Manning, he is clearly outplaying Brees. It was just a couple weeks ago that Brees laid an egg on SNF. Both teams have 23 dropped passes fyi. Broncos lead the nfl in fumbles.

oh dear god .lol PM basically stole 2 MVP year awards from Brees when he under performed in almost every stat. 2008 ,2009. its was a pitty award because he was the the colts
use that same logic and Rogers doesnt get MVP 2011.
Brees is not a better specimen than manning. Better arm, stronger, taller. But I think by the end people will see Brees has better stats, and thats just him busting his ass without all the abilities the great QB's enjoy.
