RUMOR: via Twitter... Matt Forte to Patriots talk...

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

The Bears have put the Franchise tag on Forte.

We have already used our Franchise tag on Welker.
If we sign Welker could we use the tag on Forte?

If not, we would have to work out a new contract for Forte
before the trade.

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

Florio used to bust his ass for rumors. It's how PFT got started. He was the one that broke the Moss to Oakland trade and it was right about then Florio got big.

Once he became established he ditched the rumor hunting for easier work. Panned out pretty damn well for him, too.

Whether this rumor has any validity or not, I'm drooling at the idea of Forte in this offense. My only concern is I believe he ended the year with a pretty serious injury. We certainly have the draft picks to make a move if Chicago is so inclined.

Forte had a sprained MCL. They originally thought it was a torn ACL, but it ended up being the MCL sprain. Since it happened in December and the Bears were out of the playoffs with Cutler also with a significant injury, they sent both players to injured reserves.

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

I believe that the missing pieces for the offense are: a reliable LT, a healthy LG,
and an outside receiver who commands double-teams downfield,
moreso than a RB who commands top dollar & hign draft picks.

There was nothing wrong with the RBBC of LawFirm, Woody, Vereen, Ridley & Larsen/Polite.
Any avail. top dollar & hign draft picks should be spent on improving this defense,
not on Matt Forte or Jonathan Stewart.

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

He's going to cost too much. Use the cap space on defense, our offense is set aside from depth at RB and OL.

For the Bears to trade Forte, Forte would have to sign his tender or another one year deal. So if and when he is traded to the Pats, he will no longer be franchised and won't affect Welker.

I just want to know how Bob gets online from inside prison...

and correct me if Im wrong , as soon as forte was out everyone knew the Bears were finished? That says a lot about a player

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

I have no interest in Forte. Not that I don't think he is a beast and would be great in the offense, but because the cost would be far too great. According to this rumor (which I don't believe for a second because its Incarcerated Bob) it would cost us a 2nd, 4th and another pick. Plus the 2nd and 3rd round picks you wasted last year because you don't bring Forte in to be part of a committee. Then you have to give him $8-9mil a year for 4 or 5 years at a position where he could fall apart at any time. I would prefer to sign a vet RB to give Ridley and Vereen a chance to earn the starting spot in training camp. Too many resources and too much risk to trade for Forte.

Cutler was also out. That was more important.

I disagree with a lot of the things you claim the Pats need, but either way, none of them are available. Forte is.

Forte can change the dynamics of the offense because he is a strong running AND receiving threat. My only concern is his asking price.

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

I don't know what you're talking about. Florio is complete garbage when it comes to speculating. The only thing he's good for is compiling what other sources have already confirmed. He doesn't really find out anything directly. He just spreads what the Mike Reisses and Ian Rapoports find out.

Exactly my point.

It seems to me that since NBC has its name all over the PFT 'brand' now, that the site is way more about simply compiling information that is relevant to NFL football. As you said, most of it has already been reported from other outlets first, and that's fine in my opinion. The majority of news outlets do the exact same thing.

What PFT does is take all of their sources and combine their stories and facts, (sometimes there is still speculation about where a guy may end up etc) so that the viewer can see what guys like Adam Schefter, Rappoport, Peter King etc already broke first.

I don't see too many times where they go too far off the beaten path, and that's really all that Incarcerated Bob ever seems to do.

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

No thanks. If the Patriots want to spend big money and multiple picks on a player, let them work something out with Pittsburgh to get Wallace.

Woodhead is also a great receiving back. Just watch again the first SB TD drive.

For the price of Forte, and a little more, the Pats should try for Jared Allen. That is a much better idea.

Forte a beast believe me. He's the only thing we ever worried about in NO and we still didn't completely stop him.

Absatively Posalutely NOT.

The franchise tagging period was over a long time ago.

Any sort of proposed trade for a guy like Forte would first have to happen with Forte signing his franchise tender, and then being traded. Much like in the case of Cassel. Or I do believe the Bears could remove the franchise tag altogether, but then he'd just be a free agent--so that's not going to happen.

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

Cutler was also out. That was more important.

Really Cutler with Forte making 50% or more of there offensive scoring, na

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

Forte is a beast but I'd rather use all those resources and get Jared Allen.

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

You only get to use the tag once.

If you sign the player you tag, you can't re-tag someone else.

Also, what is all this Jared Allen nonsense? He's under contract, and makes like 15 million. How is that in the same ball park?

The Squealers aren't going to trade him to the Pats if he signs his tender unless they have a metaphorical gun to their head, and I can't see the Pats offering him enough to get him to sign an offer sheet, if the rumors are true.

Does Allen fit in a 3-4?
