**The Official Day 1 Patriots Draft Thread**

It seems every year we have a slew of picks, and we always seem to trade them. Hell, sooner or later, you have to make the picks. Brady isn't getting any younger, and Belichick won't be Pats coach forever. It's seems like the draft plan every year is for the future, yet that future, gets traded for the future. It's seems like every year we have 2 number one picks, but we never take them. #1 pick gets traded for a 2nd round pick this year, and a #1 pick next year. One thing is certain for next year, they will trade one of those #1 picks for a second round pick in 2012 and a #1 in 2013, shake stir and repeat. The #1 pick from 2006 turns into a #1 pick in 2017, etc.

Sometimes having multiple 2nd round picks work and you trade up for Gronkowski, sometimes it doesn't and you wind up with Butler (lose out on Clay Matthews) Why not take a chance on using both #1 picks ? It might just work and make the team better, and maybe finally help that pass rush. But now we'll never know.

Do me a favor and go be a fan of Carolina for a season.

I NEVER tire of listening to their lamentations!!

The past couple of drafts, the Patriots have decided that multiple second round picks make more sense than multiple first rounders. It seems to have worked really well for them last year. The picks cost much less, and truthfully, they seem to have a similar success with the lower end first round picks. They also picked up that second first rounder next year, which they can always package with their other first rounder next year to get a player you really want. Seems to make sense to me.

What's far more important is that you get to keep far more 2nd round picks than you can keep 1st round picks, because of their salary value.

Until a rookie cap is 100% in place, the top of the 2nd round is the sweet spot in any NFL draft.

Saints got Heyward and Ingram. Nice 1st round for them

The pick trading keeps us competitive year after year. It's not sexy but at least we don't go all in like Atlanta did tonight.

Uh, guys, the reason bowers is falling is because he's got a bum knee. He's no good...no go...no go...repeat no go, over. Raven leader to foxtrot, over...over... microfracture means end of career.

A rookie cap is really only going hurt the first 10 picks. A late 1st rd pick is not going to demand a lot of money.

Passing on Heyward and Wilkerson at 28?

Booooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Otay, LT was a need, and hopefully Solder is the answer. I would have loved to see a trade up for Quinn. Other than that nobody was really floating my boat. This is a really weak draft. The have already picked up a #1 next year, I'm officially making a call into Jeff Gaholley (or whatever he chanegd his name to) to go and vist Drew Bress. I'm pretty usre that #33 will go for whoever wants Mallett or Dalton, or maybe Bowers. Maybe another first rounder next year.

I have to re-tool my draft board to see who is left. But once agina at the end of day one, this team is not any better than it was at the beginning of the day.
It isnt? We didn't just add a LT at #17 who is going to play for this team?
Again? Were we not better after day 1 last year? I mean, I'm sure you said that, but its way past time to admit you were wrong.

If bowers is out, who's best pass rusher?

:rocker: YES!!! :rocker:

#56 + Saints 2012 1st Rounder!!!! :rocker:

You are so naive my friend. We won't use the pick next year or when we trade it for a 2013 1st rounder or a 2014 1st rounder or a 2015 1st rounder. This is getting so darn ridiculous. Every year we have 2 1st round picks and 900 other picks and we still can't beat the Jets at anything other than collecting picks.

Can I get you a KLEENEX??

Your impotent squealing amuses me.

The Jets have already peaked.

And the Patriots are clearly rapidly ascending to new Heights.

But you keep on squealing and bleating while we roll up multiple Championships...and then you can try to tell us that you never threw us under the bus!!

Hey pal, check my Post in the Draft Board under "Tonight,Tonight,Tonight". Nailed it straight on. Said this morning that we would take Solder or Watkins and trade the 2nd pick and still have no pass rush. Right on the money my friend. Right on the money. What was your prediction Einstein?

Change SUBJECTS much??

I made NO predictions!!

What's your POINT, my whining, squealing, BLEATING friend??

With this amount of time leading up to our pick. How can we not trade it? Should be an interesting second round. If we can squeeze another future first and keep two second rounders. That would be ok with me.

Yes but when you have multiple first rounders you can package them to move up. I really think that the Patriots will change their strategy once that cap is in place. Plus in a time of change BB has always been able to take advantage of many of his less skilled competitors.

You sir, are a moron. Someone questions why our team trades out of a prime slot of the draft, something they do every single year, and this is the best you can do ? I listed some major concerns, and you decide to drink the koolaid instead. The last time the Pats actually took both first round picks was in 2004 (Wilfork and Watson), and they won the SB that year. We've had two #1 picks several times in the last 7 years since, and have passed on several players that would have helped us.

They already have lost out on a chance for Heyward, Wilkerson and Ingram. By giving up that chance, they now pretty much have to pick a D-lineman with Pick 33, when they could have picked Heyward or Wilkerson at 28, and adressed another need with a Torrey Smith at 33, or a second defensive player at 33. Heyward and Bowers or Heyward and Brooks Reed sure sounds better than just one defensive lineman and a #1 pick next year (that most likely will be traded). It may be good ASSET management, but you can't build a team with assets, you have to build it with actual players. No way they draft all 3 picks in tomorrows second round.

I think the Pats will trade down from #33 again. One of the teams that missed out on a QB in the 1st round will want to get after Dalton or Kaepernick.

Hopefully, after the tradedown, the guy the Pats take at #40ish is the guy they wanted all along at 28/33. It's pretty hard to turn down a 2nd and 1st round pick for #28. That's some good value there.

Well the Bills and Bengals follow the Pats pick, both of them need a QB, so if you want one, you have to call BB.

That's the night for me guys, see y'all tomorrow.

guys, a DL was not that much of need for the pats......they have decent bodies in that unit.

they need an OLB much more, and a difference maker was not available when they drafted.

I like brooks reed if the pats decide to use #33...... he's got the ability and an attitude that will allow him to be coached up. I think he's a perfect fit with the rest of the unit (cunningham, mayo, spikes, guyton, fletcher)...he may be a 1 trick pony coming out of college, but I think he will wind being more whilst his 1 trick is a trick the pats sorely need.

Maybe the 2 #1's in 2012 will be packaged to pick the #1 QB in the draft....
